The Strada 130TC was indeed a weapon. So was the SuperMirafiori 2000TC, the 124 Special T (the Lada 1200 shape) which was Escort sized with the 1600 twin cam and 5 speed box. 1956 Alfa Giulietta Ti had the all alloy 1300 twink with 40DCOE's and five gears when BMW were making bubble cars and dreadful shite like the 502.
I think the last interesting Fiats were the Tipo 16v and Uno Turbo. Both flawed but bollocking good fun.

Not quite. Fiat always sold off it's obsolete models to others. The Fiat 600 was made by Steyr (now onwed by BMW) for example. The Fiat 124 was the single round headlight 1300cc saloon from 1966 and the 125 was the four headlight version with longer front and rear ends plus the twin cam engine. The Lada 1200/1300 was the Russian 124 but with the Ruski's own engine (which was quite good) and the 1500/1600 was the 124 Special T shell with four headlamps. To really comploicate things there was the Polski Fiat (Later the FSO - 'For Suckers Only) which was a Polish built 125 with the single cam Fiat engine. Fiat made a fortune out of these things as they were all licenced.blatantarrogance wrote: Wasn't the lada a Ruski Strada?
The FSO Polonez was a fucking awful abortion the Poles knocked together on a 125 floorpan. Only the Polish could create a car as bad as that.

This is the first Lada 1200, @1974. Nice.

Hmmm, the Lada 1600. Peachy.

And the Polski Fiat 125p which the Polacks started making in '67, the same year as the Torinese original. Desirable.
So Nathan - you are now an Eastern European/Communist Bloc Fiat knock off expert!
Couldn't have put it better! The 2000 on Mondeo's are also just as good and what people forget or dont even know is that Ford of europe is essentialy England and Germanys Ford companys combined since the 70's.Andyboy wrote:
As for Fords - these days they're every bit as reliable as a German car. Well, made in Cologne, they would be.The current Focus isn't as sharp looking as the old one but it's still a formidable bit of kit and the TDCi is very good.

Bader was an English hero.stuartgallafant wrote:i dont give a sh1t, i'd still never drive a Ford!!!
who is Douglas Bader?!?!?!![]()
Flew Spits or Hurricanes in WW2. Lost both legs in a flying accident (I think prior to WW2). Eventually learned to walk again on prosthetics, then went straight back into the cockpit.

So is that why lotus put a twin cam Fiat lump into the lada they tuned for Top Gear??
I want a lada drift weapon.
I liked the 120d sport my friend had from the stealers, loadsa torque and fun with out the traction control on, but its no e30. I like tho looks of the 2door and the cab 1series, if they make it< but id never buy one its just as though bmw have lost what they started for and are now just run by accountants as are so many companies now a days...

Hamster likes the new 3 door version! He's given it a glowing review in today's Daily Mirror.

I'm busy pricing-up 1 series. Why? Becuase I have a short drive and a garage that has loads of stuff in such that an E30 just fits. I realise that a current 3 is better value but I wouldn't consider one. 1) they aren't funky enough 2) they are too common (esp as I'd have a rep spec for my budget) 3) I'll have one of those when I'm older and need back seats.

Not true! The 1 series cuts through the air very nicely.johnna wrote:A 1 series five door looks very much like a touring to me.
plus 1's are about as aerodynamic as a brick... just like the e30!
The best 1 i have driven was a 120d, haven't driven a 6 pot unfortunately. The handling is sublime, direct nicely weighted steering, feels perfectly balanced as you'd expect. It was quick too, they're even quicker now with 180 bhp ish. As said the 116i sewing machine is a complete waste of money. Higher spec models make more sense, and I bet the 135 coupe is a great drive. The only real issue i have with the 1 is its poor practicality.
It may not have the raw feel of the e30 but what mainstream car does nowadays.
My dad is about to order a 118d M sport as a company car after not being too impressed with the 123d (lets face it its still a diesel). The co2 emissions are very low on all 1 series but the 118d is the lowest. He said he'd rather save the money on co2 tax every month and spend it on our e30 track machine.

I'm going to get flamed to **** for this, but I reckon the 3-door 130i is the true successor to the Scimitar GTE!
3 litres, 6 cylinders, RWD, no room in the back and consequently no more practical than a 2-seater. But for 2 people, a great tourer (no - I didn't mean Touring).
Hopefully the 130i doesn't have the factory-fitted water ingress that the Scimmy did.
It's never really occurred to me before, but a 130i 3-door would probably put an end to my lust for another Scimmy.
