Yup, £500 per wing, and they're practically guaranteed to rust through within a few years anyway. Easily the most impractical car I've ever owned, and it will probably drive me up the wall trying to restore it, but I don't care. It's a labour of love.
Tell you what - if I **** up the welding to a point where the car is scrap, I'll happily put the wheels up for sale here first, if there's any interest
Heh... I've already been offered more for just those wheels than I paid for the car. Which I was briefly tempted with, until I worked out that I'd still lose money after shelling out for four new TRXs, and I'd be stuck with crap looking wheels.think you should sell me the car for 300 quid

A while ago I was ranting somewhere about how rusty old '80s BMWs are, and how it's a ****ing good job they don't make submarines... Well, last night I whipped the outer wings off the E24 for a spot of renovation. Here's what I found underneath:

Yeah, a little - normally with these it's the outer wings that rot through first. Mine are still pretty good. Which I reckon means that someone has gone to the trouble of replacing them (at £500 a pop) without cleaning up and sorting out the rust inside. Which strikes me as a bit odd.pacerpete wrote:And you are suprised ?
Ho ho. I rather think I'll be hanging onto them for a while. I think that this E24 is destined for the scrappy, but I'll be looking out for another one to replace it with. And of course, it just wouldn't look right without my wheels on itLook on the bright side, you can always prise £100 out of me for your BBS !

I'd love a late M635CSi. I think they are the absolute nutz.
I fell in love with them after seeing the black one in the film 'Inner Space' (showing my age now).

(Hope that link works OK - bit of an odd URL)
Hmmm - looks like the linky thing doesn't link. Take a look at the Hartge H6 they've got up for sale.
