I am sure is a great car. Wouldn't win be so successful in concours otherwise.
Thing is easy to be critical of someone else car or pride and joy.
There isn't a car in the world that doesn't have faults or a tiny niggle.
I have seen at PH SUnday Service at the largest gathering of Ferraris in the world and F40 with bubbling under the paint!!!!
Brand new cars such as BMWs are less than perfect. According to respected professionals in the detailing world they have orange peel when new.
Besides that the components may not always be as good as they should be
Eg E46 Springs, subframe, brakes or E30 terrible brakes

I think we should all stop judging this M635 so harshly

I know its easy to be critical and I know my e24's

On the face of it the car is amazing but the paint on the bonnet and wings is not great. Simple to rectify though.

As for new BMW's and orange peel, yes seen it all before. Even you CS will have orange peel

Yes the CS does have orange peel as do many brand new BMWs

Sound like all that is missing is this M635CSi needs a minor paint correction.

No, it needs re painting.

For the sort of money they are asking i'd rather it be original with a couple of stone chips than be repainted several times

Out of interest from a buyers perspective .... why do you prefer it original paint with stone chips rather than say resprayed because of stone chips say for example ?

A car is only original once. When a car is as it left the factory you can be certain everything is fitted correctly and what you see is what you get. A 'restored' car on the other hand often / usually is a shiny veneer hiding many sins. Ask Robert Born

Hmmm this is what is preventing me from getting the front of my CS resprayed because of stone chips even though a BMW Dealer would probably think is Christmas

What about if say it had been resprayed and put back together by someone that knows what they are doing ie a BMW Expert Specialist someone who knows these cars ?

PS Who is Robert Born ?

There are lots of so called experts and not many can put an e24 back correctly. Even mine is far from prefect and I spent a good few hours with pete adjusting the door handle, lock and latch so it felt right

If you photographed and document why you did it it then at least it shows that it was just stone chips and not a front end smack.

One factor for me buying my e46 is because it has never seen paint. It's high mileage buy honest

£60k is a lot of money for M635CSi
I haven't studied the market but I would have thought £30-35k tops for M635CSi
As for those slagging it off I would like to see whether there car is any better than this and low owners low mileage Etc ....

Who's slagging it off ?
While my car is not better I never claimed it was, but the point is that for a car to get top money it should be 100% original

I can think of better things to spend 75 bags on.

May be time to have the agreed value reassessed Kos....... :D

I was talking about this with my mate who's got an immaculate motorsport highline in negaro

Ok both our cars are a touch over 100,000 miles but they are cosmetically excellent and mechanically spot on and in great colour combinations

You'd be hard pushed to find nice ones, there are better but not many. Both of ours are 635's but I'd say they are easily 15-20k cars if this is the way the market is going.

Wow that's crazy prices.
Looks like Quentin Wilson on Top Gear or Fifth Gear was right about E24 6 Series pricing rising and becoming classics.
Really loved these cars since 2000
Great proper Yuppie looks
Proper BMW NA Straight Six
RWD + LSD
Manual if you are lucky
Cool cars

Even Brand new BMWs have orange peel.
Nothing a good detailer cannot sort out.
Pretty much all used cars have faults of some kind to some degree or another unless you happen to say have that 2000 mile E46 M3 at BMW Hexagon of Highgate as an example.
I get what u are saying about original cars though but that's like finding a needle in a haystack.
I remember the days when most 6 Series were sub 10k, no one was interested in them and some were rotting

^^^ This. but with prices for excellent ones (that have seen welders) this sky high, there could be fat to be earned?
