Those in the know would immerse a part worn tax disc /MOT in a pan of brake fluid overnight. This lifted the ink out whereupon said docs could be rinsed under the hot tap, dried on a radiator, ironed flat and 'reassigned' to another vehicle.
Did it for years until I got caught in 1997 and fined 300 sovereigns. I was still well in front though.
