New headlight bits arrived. Took B7's advice and got the shiny new ones, though my inner Jew is very displeased with spending 80 GBP.
Off to the dealers to get the rubber grommit things in a bit. Will also order adjusters I think either from the dealer or from eBay, depending on who will let me have them the cheapest.
Pleased with the covers, even if non-genuine, I think the crystal clear lenses will be better than even the cleanest second hand efforts.

Oh, also thing the side light filament in the bulb may have gone, put the side lights on, one of the indicators stays on. Dipped beams and it goes off, the indicator function isn't impaired in any circumstance.
Easy way of checking???

They look good.
Yes you have a sidelight out. The indicator will glow at half brightness until you change the sidelight bulb.
going for clear repeaters as well?

Thanks mate, picked up side lights. Went to dealers to cost up those grommits and the ferkers wanted 28GBP for them. Going to try FAB Direct in the morning. Worth a peek if you've not heard of them
http://www.fabdirect.com/
The parts dude in the dealer pointed me their way after one of their customer sorted an e46 cylinder head for a few hundred quid, came all machined and crated. They were very impressed.
The website is shit, but I reckon putting a call in and I may have a pair hopefully for half that.
Interesting point from the dealer. They put my reg into their computer and it came up my car was an import???? Bizzare.
Not bothered getting anything else clear for the time being. One of the boot struts is dead, so may replace those, £15 on FAB. I need to get working for a bit and earn some money, plus buy Xmas pressies.
Really pleased with the E39. Lovely car to drive. Doesn't like short trips around town much, but a lovely smooth car.

As bss325i confirms, the e46 with 1.9 m43 engine are great. My wife got one 3 years ago, it was a year 2000 full spec one with 114k on the clock. We got it for 1,800 quid 3 years ago and its still going very strong.
Only thing we've changed are the 2 front wishbones as the lower ball joints went, no major work needed yet and the engine is sweet as a nut and the drive is still absolutely lovely and tight.

Plenty of these are imports Nath. Chances are it'll be a Belgium / French ordered car and the PDI and supplying dealer stamp in the history may confirm it.
Remember back late nineties and 2000's, people were beating the system by ordering from abroad for a cheaper deal? It'll be one of them and nowt to worry about. Give the dealer the chassis number and you'll get the parts the same as if it was bought from them new. My last one was a belgium car.

I'm not worried mate, mechanically its a lovely car, nice and tight, well loved. They were all probably made in the same factory. The saffa on the parts desk made it sound like my car was a whore in a former life. Apartheid loving racist coont.
FAB Direct wont source the parts I want, fuck3rs, even though they break a shit load of e39s. £28 at the stealer is going to have me raging...

Thanks for the kind offer, impatience got the better of me and I got them from the dealers. Can't wander around the scrappies here any more.
I drove a company car for 5 years, drive my own car for a week and some koont puts a ferking huge ding in my passenger door. Left paint as well.

Headlights look much better. Took the old ones out at water literally poured out. So I cleaned the breather pipes and dried as best I could. There's still a very small amount of condensation on the new lenses, from whatever latent water was about, but hoping that a day in the sunshine will sort it. 30 mins of lights makes ingress into the condensation. CBA to take them apart again. Broke one of the clips and Don't want to have to replace the back of the light cluster from breaking more.
Looks a lot better, will take pics. Fit isn't perfect, understandable from pattern parts. It'll do on a £1100 car.

Oh, the 6 CD changer. A crock of sh!t or pretty good?
Mine is fucked, hardly reads discs. Wont play a CD lens cleaner. Thinking about removing it and taking it apart to clean up. Photography cleaning kit should boss it. Or a case of sling it and buy another?

Get a Dice Duo Ipod connector - about £100 off ebay and you can control your ipod from the steering wheel controls - it connects to the CD changer cabling - I'm saving my shekels for one for the E46Rosc0PColtrane wrote:Oh, the 6 CD changer. A crock of ********* or pretty good?

Had stumbled across these, though don't own an iPod. Before you buy any kit that links in, check what connections you have at the plugs. The early one is a 17 round pin and the later a ?? pin flat sorry can't remember how many.
I have deleted my 6 disc changer and linked a Connects 2 iPod module into it. Cheap as chips, works well (including the steering wheel controls) and iPods in the glovebox. The changers are notoriously unreliable when you get a few hours played through them.
OK no text on the dash to tell you what song is playing but A) I f***ing know what song it is and B) if I listen to the radio it don't do it either
If you don't have an iPod then they do kits to link in other types of kit as you've shown. Some of those look like a good bet Nath.
