As you say I'm sure many have done this before me, just tyres to sort out now and I might leave it alone for a bit.

On that note, anyone know if 16x8 et23 225/55/16 would fit with no issues?

I've seen a set of wheels alot cheaper than buying tyres alone and this would leave the original wheels for winter duties.

fronts would probably be ok but i reckon you'll get quite a lot of rubbing at the rear.

good work on the arm bushes. i took mine off the car so i could hold them in a vice and they were still a nightmare to get out!

Thanks Harry, do you think that's purely down to the tyres?

I assume you're looking at either some 5 or 7 series BBS cross spokes?
You'll scrub on the inner lip of the rear arch i reckon. I had to roll my arches running 225/45/17s on 17x8s, ET20.

Yep they are 7 series BBS cross spokes, I thought the offset would probably be the issue shame as I think they would have suited it.

yeah, tyres plus offset really. with a 205 or 215 width you might just get away with an et23, likewise, a 225 would probably be ok if the offset was say 28mm.

i didnt want to give a definite answer as mine is a saloon so not sre if there's a difference in clearance, but i ran 225 45 on an 8x17 et20 and without altering the arches it would have scrubbed constantly.

215 on an 8.5 et13 required a fair amountof arch 'tickling' to get it to work properly on the rear.

I bit the bullet in the end and put 4 new tyres (Falken Ziex912) on the original wheels, that along with 4 wheel alignment and crossed my fingers they would balance ok. They did and these 2 jobs have solved all the remaining handling issues.

I can recommend the tyres too they perform very well I'd done some research and decided I wanted to try them, the loudest thing in the car is now the A/C blower! Still plenty of little jobs to keep me busy, but next up is new windscreen and a bit of paint! I promise I will take some pictures.

While I remember does anyone have a decent sport seat base foam? or a black passenger inner sill/door frame cover (inside the car)?
