The 2.5k one proabably needed a grand on it, the one we've looked at is going to cost an additional £1,500 for a good gas conversion, no comparison really!!!
If you think 39's rust, have a good look at some early e46's 8O

Mates just bought a 330i touring. a 00 X plate, rear arches need work but worryingly, the vertical seam down the front offside suspension turret (to forward inner wing) has blown. I have NEVER seen this on a 36! ever!

And we all know about the front wing issue on the coupes.

We just sold a 97 318 36 touring and it was spotless in every corner, arch, panel, tailgate etc.

We have 2 E36's in work at the moment. First one is a 328i, has 19" rimz, bad boy air filter etc, usual council type mods. It has 108k on the clock.

Roof is rusty, rear arches are hanging off, both front arches rusting, and the front inner arches are really badly rusted, around the struts is particulary bad. Looks like it's been in the wrong hands for a while.

The other E36 is a 318is, totally standard 178k on the clock, and not a spot of rust anywhere. Obviously only just fallen into the wrong hands. It's with us due to the current owner deciding to make a dukes of hazard style jump into a fuel station. Damage is quite impressive. The strut top bolts have damaged the bonnet!

Point I'm trying to make is if a car is properly cared for, then it makes a big difference down the line.

Amen.

All it takes is a winter's worth of salt left during the summer and you can turn just about anything into a rotting moneypit :(
