Agreed.Morat wrote:Let's be honest with ourselves here, most people either drive E30s because they can't afford anything more modern (although that is changing a bit now that E36s are cheaper and more plentiful) or because they like the style/handling/whatever of the E30. Either way, BMW would be mad to put a bunch of zoners in the focus groups because we're not in their target market.
Gadgets
I dont really mind a few gadgets. You probably dont realise how useful you are still you got them though i can see your point.
e.g. electric seats with driver memory for up to three drivers - i find useful and better than manual adjustment especially if someone else jumps in the car saves fiddling about with seat position and mirrors position
anti-dazzle mirrors in E46 compared with E30
air-conditioning
electric mirrors
Audis still are regarded as upmarkets VWs though much more stylish on the styling/interior ergonomics/their brand has prob more brand power now compared with the 1980s and are much closer to BMW now as seen as a close competitor now.Andyboy wrote:

BMW have filled every niche because if they don't, someone else will. If they stuck to making just 3-5-6-7 Series, they'd have been taken over years ago. The cars they make now sell in big numbers because they're very good. They've shaken off the eighties w@nk*r image as well.
There is no such thing as 'prestige' anymore. These days the more expensive the car, the bigger the tw@t behind the wheel. Astons, Range Rover, Bentleys etc now have a terrible image.
If we look at Ferrari/Aston Martin/Maserati/Mercedes-Benz/Jaguar they are all owned by parent companies and most recently Porsche been swallowed up by VW. BMW can only strive for independence i guess by filling those niches. They did VERY well out of the 2000 X5 even though i think MB got there first with the ML class. Though i think the X6 is a bit of a gimmick.
I think BMWs drivers are generally regarded as w@nkers either out of spite/some of them do drive bad. Last time i went on motorway i did have an audi driver up my arse though.
The more expensive the car the bigger the tw@t:
i am not sure about this. though i went in west end last wkd and saw a bunch of asian lads revving their cars/hire cars? like crazy in sat evening.
they dont always drive that fast the astons i seen on the road/911s though i am sure they give it some welly.
Back to topic.
I drove a 116i a few years ago and thought it drove pretty well and i found it really fun even though it looks pretty sober. it had me pleasantly surprised. though that could be something to do with just coming back from a six month driving ban.
Was just thinking the shot of the back end going round the the corner looked very mk4 golf like..Morat wrote:It looks like a Golf made by Mazda.
Thumbs down from me

Looks like BMW have poached the head designer from Ssangyong.

Apart from Z3/4's , I don't recall a single new BMW design that I've instantly
liked. However, within a relatively short time, I sort of start to get them.
Still not keen on the X5, or E36 come to think of it. The E30 Touring took a while
before i appreciated as well.

And it was already bigger than the E30...Body 85 millimeters (3.35 inches) longer, wheelbase 30 millimeters (1.18 inches) longer, front track 51 millimeters (2 inches) wider and rear track 72 millimeters (2.83 inches) wider than previous model.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring
Rust is lighter than carbon fibre.
