E46 rubbish. 80'000 mile pump on the Laguna was like new but fitted a new one whilst doing the belt.

The water pump on your gallic sh1tbox may well be fine Andy - its the rest of the car you need to worry about - if it has the 6 speed box and its done 80k you'd better get ready to change it - my Mrs Laguna made it to about 75k before the box shat itself

Nope - not yet anyway - previous owner just had it serviced - looks like actually replacing stuff will be down to me :banghead:

Depends which one. The ZF was not bad, the DPO a disaster. That piece of shit was fitted to lots of French turds. Changed the pollen filter on the red turd today, admiring the lack of rusty arches ;-)

. Unlike the rest of the galvanised shell, with alloy bonnet and tailgate. They 're as close to immune to rust as you'll get. Pity the electrics aren't as good. Gearboxes on petrols can go as well - not breakage, but a circlip pops out of the output flange causing loss of drive. Another one way trip across the scales. I think you can fix it with the box fitted.

As for that fucking keycard........

The one my Mrs had was the Dynamique - it was mega comfortable with half leather sports seats and electric everything - shame it spent more time being fixed than it did on the road - apart from the issues with the gearbox we had heater matrix problems, recurring clutch pedal issues despite being repeatedly "fixed" by a main dealer, and the poxy tyre pressure warning sensors in the wheels failed over and over again- there was more stuff but I think I've managed to block it out. It was a VERY expensive 18 months of ownership and I've forbidden her from even looking at another french turd.

Anyway back to rusty engine-clad-with-plastic E46 scrap :D

I reset the fuel computer the other night after putting some squirt in as it had been taking an average of 30mpg over the last 800 or so miles, of which there had been a few motorway journeys.

Now i'm just running to work and back and around the ring road it's showing 19.7mpg. Which is pretty gash. I wouldn't mind if I was kicking it's head in everywhere, but that's from nannying it about. Bag o shite I tells ye

Changing the 'stat on mine helped with the MPG a little bit as it seemed to drink a bit more fuel when it was running cool

I dont go off the fuel computer though - fill it up and run it down to empty and calculate the mpg from that. The Fuelly website in my sig is a good way to keep track if you're geeky about that sort of thing :o:

How many miles to work Lee? Im 7 miles each way and if I dont get onto a decent journey between filling up its usually 16mpg in the E34, but thats at 68p per litre :)

Most auto 6 pot E46's I see are averaging low 20's

Yeah it's only about 7 miles each way to work, so maybe that's as good as it gets.

i do ten miles to work and back in a 330i and get 25mpg so i would say yours should be at least early 20's.

Thrusting! Ours is the Expression with motor trade anthracite cloth and none of the electronic bullshit. Manual air con and a basic obc.

These cars only make sense if they're cheap enough to walk away from.

Has the water pump and thermostat etc changed today. What a noticeable difference to the level of heat coming out the vents, I actually had to turn the climate down for a change.

One of the lolipop bushes was utterly wankered and the other one wasn't far behind. The steering wheel no longer has a mind of it's own.

Had the geezer take a good look over the car whilst it was on the lift and no dramas on the radar, so all good then.

Hopefully the MPG may increase a little now as 19.4 is all I'm seeing going to work & back (and that includes generally driving it under 3000 rpm) I was getting better out of the chromie kicking it's head in everywhere.
