Yeah floor mats getting sorted, I tried to put some beige E30 mats in as a temp solution but the driver front doesn't fit properly so will get some ordered.

Thermostat, drive belt, water pump, wishbone bushes & air filter ordered already.

Says it needs a headgasket but they are not all doom and gloom like the earlier M52's

Look at the base of the rad as well Lee. They love to bow out and the expansion bottles can split as well.

£400 for a shagged M54?

It is nice. Beige leatherz are seriously executive but not MTF like black or anthracite velourz.

I take it you dont have Nav either?

Head Unit removal is very straight forward on E46's without Nav.

Use a plastic trim tool to remove the two dash trims, (wood/silver/carbon cube etc) starting with the one above the glove box then the one around the HU.

This will reveal the screws holding the HU in and once these are released, the HU slides out.

Ipod cable plugs in the back.

I assume you want to route the cable to the glove box? Complete glove box is held in with cross head screws, open the glove box and you can see them all.

This^^^^

Replaced three in total on my 2 previous e39's, both the earlier style with the flat top and bottom.

The later round ones are shit. it's official.

Nice car Lee. Whats the plan on the Golf?

The Golf is going to have a sort out of the running gear, all bushes etc. Tidy the bodywork, finesse the engine conversion a bit more and get it to deliver the beans it should be.

For now I plan to just leave the touring completely stock. I had thought about some bigger alloys, but I know it will ruin the ride quality on the shite roads we have. I plan to just keep it well maintained and get good service out of it.

The PDC on my 1995 E36 still works..... after 18 years. I thought about an E46 to replace it but for what I need it's not worth it. Another E36 beckons.

there's a 3.5mm aux in on the back of the E46 busines HU?

Of course it's not that easy and I've got the tape deck as well, Why were BMW fitting tape decks in 2002, can people that are rich enough to buy new BMW's not afford CD's???

I believe you disconnect the CD changer and plug it in there - no 3.5mm socket as far as I know.

I was gonna stump up for a Dice Duo which gives full control but they're £100 so will probably just go with one of the £20 cables for now - I want to route the cable to the tray under the armrest though rather than in the glovebox

How much chew is it to change the thermostat on these turds?

I have barely lifted the bonnet on it since I got it. Does the fan shroud need to be removed to get access?

Ask Dan - he's done it twice on my turd in the last couple of months

I had a look and asked him to do it as it all looked a bit tight to me :(

Sod that for a laugh. Just had a go and can't get to the bottom left bolt to get the thermostat undone. The edge of the fan shroud is like a knife edge and I can't get my hand in there or a socket onto the bolt, so I'll be paying someone to do that job.

Changed the air filter, that didn't look like it had been changed for years.

Take the viscous fan and shroud off and there is loads of room to change the stat and pump.

I'm going to (if I remember) order new water pump from ECP tomorrow. I've noticed that it sounds like one of the idler bearings sounds a bit noisy for a while after startup.

What do I need to be replacing from the links below?

Car is a 2002 325i touring

Idlers go again if you pick out the seals and regrease them. E46's have the black plastic impeller pump and these seem to last forever.

I have changed plenty M54 water pumps where the centre bearing has fallen to bits.
