Front timing cover may be leaking as well. And that is a head off job! :(

Time for another update.

So not long after the MOT a taxing of the M5 the clutch pedal started creeping to the floor one night so i limped it home and after checking with ECP it turned out that the slave cylinder is unique to the 3.6 M5 and now BMW only. I promptly ordered the last one left in the UK and normal service was resumed the following day.

Image

Whilst the engine was still being run in i had a lead on a buyer for the car and as an impending wedding requiring some of my toys to be sold, this was followed up and a price agreed after viewing. The new owner decided to go with the throwing star covers so the wheels were sent off to lepsons for a refurb then shod in a new set of Continental Sport contact 3's in the correct sizes.

A couple of things i didn't manage to get pics of were a complete set of new bumper moulding from BMW and both bumpers painted to get rid of the scuffs. I also secured a 2 year old cat back genuine BMW exhaust as the scorpion DTM stainless system had to go!

Image

During the first 500 miles i kept the rev limit below 5k RPM and when i reached that point it was time to stretch its legs a bit but what manifested was a misfire from 5k RPM at WOT but would rev all the way to 7k RPM using part throttle.
Now i had to make a repair to the plug leads coil wire as the end broke so i thought that perhaps as they were the 26 years old and had already had one repair that they may be causing the misfire at WOT so as with many parts on this car its BMW only for a complete set of leads to the tune of £350+ vat!

Image

Unfortunately the leads did not cure the misfire. A few things were checked and tried such as a spare coil, fuel pressure, TPS adjustment and function at the DME, crank sensor resistance and air gap, a donor DME, AFM and fuel pressure regulator were also tried but wit no joy!
Te injectors were sent away to be tested and refurbished and once they were returned and refitted it was still the same!

Started to get worried and under a bit of pressure as i had taken a deposit on the car i trawled the web and found a thread on the M5 board with someone having the same fault as mine with the EXACT same symptoms and it turned out to be a coil.

After reading that i went straight out to the garage and robbed the coil from my E30 325i and result, misfire gone! The coil i initially tried but have also been knackered so once again, called the dealer and the BMW only part was in stock and again last one in the UK so another £80 and we were good to go!

Image

After a total of about 900 miles another oil and filter change was done again with Castrol 10w60 and just before the car was collected today i took a few snaps to remember it by.

Bit gutted to see it go as it is such a tight and up together car and have enjoyed the short space of time ive had with it.

Hopefully the new owner will continue to update this thread as and when.

I know how you feel Barry. I sold my 911 and 320is to pay for our wedding and deposit on our first house and I miss them both more than I can tell you. But there will always be other cars...
