E61 M5 Touring.......Deal done!!

I've been reading this thread with interest. I've been considering getting something a bit quicker and read all the comments about the reliability of these. My previous N53 E92 was pretty unreliable, but not ruinously so. Are they really that bad that every single one of them can break the bank if you haven't got the AUC warranty, or is there a bit of scaremongering involved?
Interestingly, I've also been reading this thread about the Lexus IS-F. Looks like they're capable of 150K miles plus without any serious issues. I guess they won't be as nice to drive, but if you can buy one and have 414bhp and no worries about a huge bill then I'd think about getting one.

You can read as many story's you like about the reliability of any car, but I think it's luck of the draw. For instance, my dad had a 530D for 4 years, did 150k miles, it had a clutch and an EGR valve. In comparison, I look after a 530D at work, that's had a turbo, manifold, 4 injectors, EGR valve, a boost pipe, alternator, suspension arms and now his Idrive has just packed up, that's over the past couple of years.tom325ise wrote:I've been reading this thread with interest. To buy an M5 you've got to have a strong stomach for the maintaince/repair costs. If you're used to spending £100 on a set of discs and pads then spending £1000 is going to be a shock.

But like the Pagid E36 Evo discs, they're solid and not floating. They'll do the job though.kieran325 wrote:Pagid - front set £348
ATE - rear set £332
That's ECP without discount. It's not all doom and gloom.
Edit - Set of pads £55.
Like many a BMW M car they are under braked compared to other manufactures and these buggers like to much discs.
I would not bother with the like of pagid on a car like this especially if they are non floaters.
Who told you that genuine discs are £500 the pair? As the last time I checked it was over £900 for front discs, pads and two sensors of which the M5 has one on each side at the front?

Picked it up yesterday
Didn't do much with it yesterday as we had a few friends round last night so my afternoon was spent cleaning the house.......
But I have today and it's a serious weapon and I'm liking it.
The weather has been terrible all day so no pics yet but they will come
