Damn

after 3 years of ownership i've sold this wagon to another zoner

shame really, as i only fitted the Quaife differential about 7 months ago

what i will say is that it has been a super reliable turd, problem free bar a recent throttle body fault.

It's just coming up to 185,000 miles and it has been good as gold.

Its true what they say, a full service history if vital when buying cars. This had a total dealer history and regulate oil & coolant changes and its been spot on

my daily prior to this was an e39 530i with he same engine, thats now on 190,000 and still good as gold

as for my next turd, its int he drive already

e91 320d Auto LCI with some nice options....

Holy thread revival..

This purple beast is living in the far north of Scotland now. Car was purchased from Barry last month, and will soon be the Mrs daily when the wee niggles are taken care of. I'm nearly there with it, but I work away a lot so it's difficult to get everything done as quickly as I'd like. Mods / fixes / in progress by the lads at the garage are:

Silver Grills
RD wheels have gone, and been replaced with 18" M3 reps with winter tyres
Key fob sent for repair
Headlamp washers un-deleted
5300k HID headlight bulbs
Eibach Pro springs fitted to raise her up a touch - done yesterday
M3 Cab rear top mounts and strengthening plates
Genuine Steering Guibo being replaced
Air intake boot replaced
Front foglights replaced with smoked versions
Side repeaters replaced
New ZHP Gearknob
Kenwood head unit fitted
Pipercross non oiled panel filter fitted
RD engine covers replaced with originals
Battery being replaced
Handbrake being adjusted

Future plans:

Booked in for rear window tinting next month
Private plate to be fitted. Will be wearing C9 RGR
Oil / Coolant and other fluids to replace
HK speaker system to be fitted
18" Genuine Alpina's need refurbed. Will fit these in Summer along with new Hankook rubber
LSD will be replaced with a 2.93 unit to drop the revs at cruising speeds
Waiting on a quote for paint to tidy the small blemishes

That's about it. I don't really know the car yet, as I've hardly been home. Must get some pics up next time I'm north.

Cheers !

nice to see the car still stays on the forum. i actually would have considered buying it back and sending it to cyprus as i'm sick of spending money on rental cars there !

i still have the original diff which you can put the quaife into if you want it ? dink plus post ?

RD engine covers replaced with originals - I think i have the originals - free plus post. I'll take the RD ones off you if you want to sell them

New ZHP Gearknob - i did fit one when i had it, not sure if Barry left them on there

Headlamp washers un-deleted, they are pet hate of mine on every car, i hate them pissing fluid on the bonnet when you just want to dab a bit on to the screen !!

Thanks mate,

I've a few options with the diff, one being the possibility of a lad in Hungary building me one for £850 delivered ! I'm just concerned about the ferocity of the lock up on it. The Quaife is so predictable, as you'll well know. But yes, I may take you up on that offer if I decide to get Kevin to build me a Quaife. I'll keep you posted.

RD covers have gone to a pal already, sorry ! The ZHP knob was poached from my coupe. This was uber brand new, not as if there was much wrong with the one in the touring though !

The headlamp washers are an absoloute must in the highlands. We don't have many cities up here, just amazing unlit roads

Anyway, she'll be well looked after bud. Mrs G fell in love with the colour, and we've been after a 3.0 manual touring for a good while. Must shift the coupe at some point, but I'm enjoying having a few old BM's sitting outside at the moment !

There should be someone round your way who can take the LSD out of the diff and put it into the 2.93 diff locally ? It doesn't require any special tooling or machining.
I'd personally be inclined to keep the Quaife over a plate diff. So much better on a road car. It transformed it and if it wasn't for me doing more miles I'd have kept the purple wagon. Like I said before, if Barry told me he was selling I'd have probably taken it back and shipped it to Cyprus. Like the highlands, where I stay we have some stunning driving roads

Shame about the RD covers. The owner of my old 530i wanted them.

Anyway, again it's great to hear the car is in good hands and I'll stay subscribed to this thread

I was under the impression that I couldn't put the internals from my Quaife into a 2.93 diff ? I.E, the current internals will only fit a 3.15 or higher. Or have I been mis-informed ? If I can do this, then that changes my plans significantly. I really want to stick with a Quaife now that I've tasted it. I've searched online and haven't come up with a definitive answer to this yet...

Cyprus: One of my favourite places. Have great memories of driving the Troodos Mountains in a Softtop Vitara with bald tyres. Happy days :D

Yes that's exactly right

I had a 2.93 but gave Kevin the 3.38 diff and that was used. Want me to check with Kevin ?

As for the vitara on bald tyres, sounds about right for a Zed car (that's what we call rentals) :D

I've actually not long received a mail from Kevin confirming the above, so looks like my best option will be to supply a 2.93 and get him to carry out the conversion. Not cheap, but the way ahead I think. I'll just need to see if I can shift the 3.38 at some point, maybe to someone with an auto E46. There's no immediate rush anyway, what with the freezing weather in the north killing the ability for high speed hooning at this time of year ! But thanks for the offer to contact him, it was much appreciated.

Just hoping for a but of snow when I get home so I can "use" the diff a bit more. It's super mild down here in East Sussex ! :D
