I can't resist! A lift to pacers this afternoon and then a kind lift from Mr. Everett to Northampton to pick up this badboy.

1.8 147k tidyish bodywork but techno violet! Working ice cold air con and its drives very wheel. Needs some work for new MOT but nothing major. Its been looked after, hardly any of these left now. Way better than a 520i i'd say. Tramped 85 miles home no sweat

She's a late one.

I was really surprised how well the 518s go. As you say, they make more sense than a 520. Although not sure how well it'll cope in touring when loaded up heavily.

Nice old bus that.

M43 FTW! Saw this on the 5'er (sorry Andyboy!) Forum. Bargaintastic. Looks a tidy old thing and will average 35mpg.

Well done. I saw this as well looks like the perfect daily workhorse- especially as you have plenty of other cars if you want to go a little faster. Nice colour too.

it goes aswell as any other 318i really on the arse dyno. Theres an internet myth on these and how they are too slow etc which isn't justified. I was executive today buzzing about with the A/C on keeping me chilled!

Some 15inch cross spokes would be the ticket

Needs a clutch the bite point is waaaaay too high but i don't think i'll struggle with the bell housing bolts on this one. He offered it to me for £350 - how could i say no?

Image

There is literally 9-10 inches gap between the bulkhead and engine! I think a starter motor change would be quicker than changing the oil!

I'm in need of an M43 1.8 engine for my e36 318i auto shooting break i have, but thats another £150 story! I've a potential victim for it running

Come on Simon.

120bhp trying to push 1700kgs is more of a fact than a myth. The m40 pulls well from low revs from what I know though.

And the M43 is even better than an M40 for low end torque. Having two 300bhp plus cars on the drive i'm not a total dohnut when it comes to gauging whether its majorly slow. It is slow but its not desperatley so. The gearing is well judged for what it is imo.

E34 touring = win. 518i is just fine. You can really sense how much more power the platform could handle though. Ideally, you'd have an m5 in the garage too. Oh, hang on... :D

Today i learnt a 518i will drift a roundabout with the best of them, full lock stop action in the rain.

I guess winter tyres near the limit are no good in a 26 degree thunder storm?!
