I'd happily rock an E36 Sport Touring with the split rim 17" X Spokes.
They drive great and are still not too lardy in size.

I keep saying Neil - a nice early L or M reg 325i Convertible on those 15 inch cross spoke style rimz is so 'you'.
Cosmos black or Boston green with beige leatherz - way to go.
But then we're into pre and post facelift models. The 'Pact had a later nosecone, now swapped for a new genuine BMW pre facelift version. But I'm keeping the facelift wings with the small repeaters. Orange of course, and brand new for extra orangeness. I don't do clears anymore.

The best thing about E36s is you can still get OEM matz

Still window shopping

Long list of possibles:
Porsche 924S (it's a hatchback and comes with teledials

Merc CLK500 (post '07) (Merc V8 itch, 430 is too ugly)
C43 AMG (Merc V8 itch )
E30 Facelift Baur (long term itch that needs scratching)
Another 5er
A cheap drive-it-till-it breaks barge - S Class, Silver Shadow etc.
..or more sensibly another E36, is the 325i the one to go for (not the 328i)? I see the coupe comes with fold down seats which would help on the van side of things. Rob's touring looked good + could go to Europe more and bring more cr&p back. Cabby would be great, might feel a bit guilty filling it with building materials/ bits of trees though

I'd agree with this.Andyboy wrote: ...The E36 is up and coming...
If you want a cheap 36, now is the time.
With even the sorriest landfill of Quattroporte E30s apparently now worth £5k or something, the E36s turn has to be soon.
The earliest ones are nearly 25 years old and those that lusted after new ones as teenagers will be getting to disposable income territory.
Cool? Not yet, but soon.

I tho the nice specials are cool now - colour coded Sports in any body type.
But quite a way to go for the rest of the range.

Over the last year, I've noticed that whilst E36's are still fairly plentiful in scrapyards, the E46 is now outnumbering them*. It's rare to find an E30 in the yards now and E34's equally so.
The E36 is about the last easy to fix DIY car they made.
*Good. Keep going Lads.

That started at £5k! Its now £3.5 without the Azevs i think.suchy wrote:There was a green E36 328 Touring on Azevs going lately for top money (had pretty much everything replaced on it though) but at £3.5k you're into decent enough E46 Touring territory!!

Yup, but you could purchase the Azevs for extra £, still top $ for it though imo...Coops90 wrote:That started at £5k! I've been giving the E36 some serious thought recently.

My e36 manual Sport Touring is a pleasure to drive and has been ultra reliable over nearly 3 years of daily use.
I don't think they are cool yet but I just like the looks and the fact that I don't see them on every street corner!

This illustrated my only gripe about the standard ride height though. The front arch gap is massive! Keep worrying about finding homeless people sleeping in there every morning.

Daft money for a fairly undesirable car. Possibly a decent investment if you're willing to hold onto it for half a century and its as original (bar the wheels) as it claims to be.suchy wrote:Yup, but you could purchase the Azevs for extra £, still top $ for it though imo...Coops90 wrote:That started at £5k! Got to be a right pillock to spend the extra £1500 on Azevs. Set of Alpinas much better IMO. They suit the E36t very well I think

I had a couple of 328 tourings, very impressive cars indeed, and very cheap to buy at the time.csl wrote:My e36 manual Sport Touring is a pleasure to drive and has been ultra reliable over nearly 3 years of daily use.

I have to say I'm not a fan of the Compact. Nor the E46 version.
The Sport Touring is the nicest E36 body - the Cabrio is really nice too. If you like that sort of thing.

E30 follows suit too, even down to the headrests lol.whiterhino wrote: Oh.my god I thought I was the only anal OCD type that had to have his chairs symmetrical.

I've owned this 328i for 10 years.
Still drives like new, considering it's nearly 19 years old.
Only got 85k miles & a few choice mods.
Seriously good motor, as long as you get one that has been looked after 'properly'.
Will be fitting the m50 inlet manifold soon & contemplating on 'blinging' up the BBS wheels...
I wouldn't mind a e36 sport touring though.
Not long sold my E30 325 Touring after 3+ years ownership. Now taken on a '99 E36 318ti Compact M Sport with FBMWSH and 49k on the clock. Titan Silver, original 5 spoke alloys, M trimmings in virtually mint condition.
All original (including BMW Business stereo cassette!) half leather, traction and air con. I personally like the E36 in all guises apart from 4 door.
I'll have another E30 at some point but more than happy with my revvy little Compact for the foreseeable.
The E36 isn't a pretty or iconic as an E30 but give it a few more years and I think it may be IMO.
