After suffering a blown top hose last night 50 miles from home I replaced it today and thanked my lucky stars the cooling system is not pressurising, but I noticed the engine was starting to missfire randomly at idle speed, more so when on petrol than gas. The ECU has logged the missfires and a code for the temp sensor I think (its in German on this car for some reason) but after clearing they didnt come back, although it still missfires at idle.
Anyway, came back home at 7pm and locked the car with the fob as usual, went to go back out just now and the fob isnt working at all, nor is the central locking, had to open with the key, got in and the interior lights are not working either, started up and the rear suspension is also inactive

I do believe this is a kbus related fault of some description? The radio is a standard bogo head unit with cassette deck and is working fine, is it possible whatever the problem is that its also affecting the engine? All the doors and tailgate are deadlocked too, coonting thing

Whats the best way of diagnosing these problems?

On the V8 models, the Cooant temp sensor for the DME has a habbit of melting the plug and even in extreme cases, catch fire.

The fuse for it in the E box can blow (its a green block of 5 or 6 fuses) and bring down the PT can bus which has the KOMBI on it which is the gateway module to all the bus systems such at K bus.

Check the plug, first.

I did check the sensor on the stat housing when I noticed the missfires and the plug looked to have come loose from the sensor, pushing it in didnt make a jot of difference. Im planning on replacing it anyway due to the fault code as I know they can give errors, didnt realise they can catch fire though!
Checked it again just and it looks fine, no signs of heat on the sensor/plug or wiring, the fuses in the ECU box are also fine

Could be broken wires in the tailgate/glass hinges causing the remote locking to pack up.
general module controls doors and windows via the p bus.do wipers, pdc still work?

Dan, I think I had a problem with the CL, turned out a previous owner had put a screw through a bit of trim in the rear tailgate side panel, the screw went through a wire I think but can't be quite sure.

The remote locking antennae is in the nearside rear glass not the tailgate, so shouldnt be affected, but I recently repaired several wires in the tailgate hinge so wouldnt expect any more to show problems so soon, I have crawled through to the boot to check the CL fuses and they are also intact.
I dont remember seeing any dodgy looking wires behind the boot panels Jim, ive had it stripped back to the steelwork when I did the LPG too

Ive not checked the wipers but the mirrors do work, no pdc on this, I have a towbar winkeye

£25 for a top rad hose!

Thanks for the heads up though, I will have a poke around the boot to see if I can find the wire 8)
Do you remember which side it was on?

Just an update for anyone that has any ideas for me, no wipers, no elec windows, no air suspension, no CL, no interior lights.
I cant diagnose these systems with INPA just says not found

Radio and CD changer are working fine, so is the heater, everything else appears to be ok including the instruments and lights

It is the gm module, swapped it with one from a saloon a couple of hours ago and it works everything except the tailgate, the rain sensor seems to be inoperative too

Anybody know if they can be repaired?

A good used module may be a quicker solution - pm me the 11 digit p/no and I may have one.

Regarding the blown hose, this is common on these now. With the electric stat they run bloody hot and at high pressure. A mod is to convert to the normal E34 V8 stat.

What year is the car?

Be careful with just swapping general modules around, the new one or a good known used one should be programmed with the cars options as thats certainly why some of the items are not working. You will also have a hard time diagnosing if the GM is incorrect.

Makes sense that its a relay problem, this is exactly the same as whats on my car - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121171332709? ... 1423.l2649

But it does say its from a saloon which could be a problem? Or its wrongly identified..

Let me know if you have one Mr E :D

Its a Sept 97 build, I knew it was different but it was the only one I could get hold of quickly to try out, AFAIK the only programming is for the remote locking?

Actually its only 3 relays, the two with the blue text only have two pins on the underside of the board

When connecting diagnostics and programming any module, the system needs to know the vehicle option codes, these are stored in several modules, the GM is one of these and it's the first one the system reads.

It's very very important the correct option codes are set and match the car. Repairing the one you have is what I would be looking at doing also.

Have a look on RS for the relays. Would be pretty simple to repair of the relays are at fault.

The V23072-C1061-A303 is RS Components 718-1692 @£4.81 each.
They don't stock the V23078-C1002-A303, but this is a twin 12V 20A change over relay, configured with the NO contacts connected together to pin 8 and the NC contacts together and to pin 5. This means that with power connected to 5 and 8, and a motor connected to the relay common contacts (6 and 7), the motor will run in one direction if one relay coil is energised, and in the other if the other coil is powered.
Obviously won't fit on the circuit board, but two external relays could be bodged with flying leads.

I found these Dan?

Also maybe just use the relays from the good GM?
