Z1s are a quirky unique car. hexagon had one for about 20-25k a few years back. Has the Z axle which later found itself on the rest of the range. Is a quirky interesting car and I would prefer a Z8 over a non M Z3. And I prefer a Z1 over a non M Z3. Out of all the Zs I like Z3MC S54; Z4MC; Z8.
Z8s seem to be worth a bit considering they didn't sell well. Z1 is like I said interesting quirky little odd has some unique BMW history like the z axle the doors so kind of cool.
But I honestly wouldn't pay £20k for them when I am spoilt for choice ....
996.2 Carrera 2
E46 M3 CS Coupe
E92 M3 just about
E60 M5
E39 M5
E28 M5 maybe can u get for under £20k ?
E34 M5 LE
E24 M635CSi maybe can u get for under £20k ?
Maybe sneak urself a M3 CSL for under £20k if u can find one for that price
964 C2
E30 325i Sport
Z3 M Coupe
Z4 M Coupe
E38 750iL
All of the above I prefer over a Z1. Though Z1 has an appeal to a limited fan base maybe more fans in other countries. I admire jet for sticking up for it though. Like I said kind of quirky and interesting but Z8; Z3MC; Z4MC never sold well when new and now two of those are "classics" ....

Just read this thread to try and write the Wiki article on the Z1. Had to give up, I was too busy crying with laughter.

Didn't the ex Irvine car 'sell' for Ca 18k last week ?
What 4 star 'allegedly' sell a car for and its real value are two different things. They sold a henna red B9 635 last year for 16 bags ! The same car was a £3000 tonced up snotter needing a 6k body job, amongst other things

Peter are u aware through your contacts there is a real zero mile UNREGISTERED Z1 in existence. There was a big article full of colour photographs in a recent BMW Car Club Straight Six magazine feature
Looked stunning
Even the plastic covers where the number plates goes the plastic film covers were unpierced.

How do u know they are unsold ?
Have u viewed all the cars they are selling to verify their condition ?
Those are quite brave statements u are making

I did not and would not say that 4star have a bad rep. I would say that they need to be more careful about what they sell on SOR . Selling cars for top money is nothing to be ashamed of, selling sorry pigs for top money is

I have a lot of respect for the guys at 4star and their ability to paedo and serve lots of interesting expensive turds without spending any of their own money .
If your turd is deemed suitable (sorry Soni, twisted rusty 'restored' Tech1 turds are not) You pay them £499+vat to prepare and market your car and when/if it gets served they take 20% +vat of the sale price as their cut. This is why 15k cars are usually 20k !
You also have to sign an exclusive contract with them for six months iirc. If you find a victim yourself in the mean time, you still are legally bound to give them their pound of flesh !
Selling cars is very tedious and obviously they have some serious overheads so I can see why sellers use them and why they charge what they do.
Yes I know them, yes I have been to their premises, yes I know for a fact many of the cars that are listed as 'sold' have in fact been sold by the owner for a lot less once their 'contract' with 4star has expired.
At the end of the day, anybody buying a classic car who does not have it professionally inspected is asking for trouble, where ever and whoever is selling it, especially if the seller is a known BMW car club stalwart !

And finally, yes, I have worked on a few cars that have been through their hands and on several occasions told the owner "this car is bodged up scrap, get rid of it"

Haha I read an interesting letter today ....

Remind u of anything ?
I suppose say you have a good car and u can sell (or serve to a victim as u prefer to call it) for £15k. But then u go via 4 Stars and they detail it, write a proper advert, take good photographs and have a wide audience and sells for £20k it is not a bad idea.
Top cars should be selling for top money.
Obviously if they sell bottom / average investment grade (read condition) cars for top money .... Something is wrong. And when they get found out wouldn't do their rep any good.
Brand / rep is important in the car dealing business
And trust and customer service .... So being contactable by your clients etc
But I do like their angle in selling cars .... They do a very nice detail and take some very nice photographs and do a good advert. That's all the easy bit compared to costs of getting a car to top condition which can cost big money

Just spent a few hours on one of these spastics sorting out misc issues for an MOT tomorrow , my swearing and shouting only punctuated by the random exploits of a Clifford alarm. GGRRRRRR !

Thats just sick and twisted and sad and heroic in equal measures ! I guess you use a cheese grater as a masturbation aid ?

No No, normally a staff nurse is enoughpacerpete wrote:senna wrote:Try putting in an S62 then.pacerpete wrote:Just spent a few hours on one of these spastics sorting out misc issues for an MOT tomorrow , my swearing and shouting only punctuated by the random exploits of a Clifford alarm. GGRRRRRR !

Is it fair to compare an M5, M3, Porsche, 750il to a Z1?pony wrote:Z1s are a quirky unique car. hexagon had one for about 20-25k a few years back. Not very high in your estimation, disappointing but fair enough
