Hi there was wondering if anyone here can help iam trying to locate my crank position sensor on my 728i p reg bmw. Ive changed my cam position sensor and need to change this one now to get the car going and back up too full power i just cant seem to find it on the engine if anyone knows the location or where to find this i would be very gratefull many thanks

It's down on the front of the engine behind the aux belt.
If you feel down underneath the thermostat housing down towards the main crankshaft pulley you should come across it.

do you mean the one near the vanos solinoid ive changed that but apprently there is another one . this is going to sound stupid but is that underneath the engine ? or is it accessable without ramps or a jack

Looking at this pic, can you see the silver viscous coupling for the fan?
If you look just to the left of that on the engine block you can see the mounting position for where the crank sensor mounts. It is a bit of a fanny to get to and to get the single allen bolt undone that holds it in place. I recall the wiring going to the sensor runs underneath the thermostat housing (the black coloured elbow above the viscous fan unit in the pic below)
