The centre bearing went on my old e30 325 and clonked and clonked.
I've got a squeal coming from the tunnel of the e36...
...in all gears and neutral when moving
...not in neutral when parked up
...in gear with the passenger rear wheel jacked off the ground
...nothing is touching the prop
...the centre bearing has some play in it when I wobble it
I'm hoping that I'll be spending £20 on a bearing and carrier and not more on a diff or box.
Anyone ever had a prop centre bearing go on an e36?

had one go on an E39 and it clonked too if that helps!
squeels sound like the UV joint(s) otherwise called the cross bearing. they can be changed but prop must be balanced afterwards, thus a new/second hand prop is cheaper.
centre bearing should have some movement as the bearing is housed in a rubber bushing. it should not be perished.
in any event its prop off to check!
