My E46 coupe's boot can no longer be opened with the handle but still opens with the remote. Any ideas?

Handles broken. I guess that the remote operation it actually pops open and you don't have to use the handle

The microswitch in the boot handle strip is broken.

Underneath the black rubbery pad you push in to open the boot is a level and a microswitch and its the switch thats broken.

You have 2 choices...

A) Replace the entire boot strip, you can purchase the unpainted part from BMW and have someone colour match it

B) By a microswitch by trawling through the EPC and finding one that matches and strip it down and replace it yourself

I've changed loads of these for this fault, its not uncommon at all

Cheers Stuart. It hadn't been working for about 2 weeks but oddly since I posted this its worked every time I've tried! I'll keep what you've written in mind as it sounds its only a matter of time before it breaks for good.
