I have had an oil service at a main stealer £115 later on my 318i 2000 car.The main reason I took it to a main dealer was because its got full BMW service history and also a dealer can reset the oil service figuers on the dashboard unlike the old E30
where you just go and buy a service indiator light tool to reset the lights (as we all know).
My question is can the dashboard figures be reset on the E46
by jo public,if so how is it done? Many thanks.

Yes it can.

1. With the ignition off, press and hold the left button on the instument cluster,

2. Turn ignition to position 1 and the message SIA will appear,

3. when this starts to flash, release the button and press it once the the remaining distance appears,

4. press and hold the same button again untill the reset appears and the distance starts to flash

5. release and press the button once and the distance resets itself

6. turn ignition to position 2.

Done.

There is also a brake fluid indicator which is a clock logo when its due. To reset this is the same as reseting the service light except on stage 3 release the button then press it twice not once.

Which dealer did you go to buy the way?

Why do you want to be able to reset the lights yourself?
