I am thinking of buying an E28 520 I really like the look of them.
Does anyone know what engine this is?
Is it the same as in the E30?
Has anyone got one?
Should I be thinking of another one to buy?
E28 520 what engine is it?

Yes its the M20B20 engine as also found in the E30.
Prepare for a torrent of abuse from the M20B20 Haterz who will tell you that it will be thirsty and slow. It almost certainly will be - especially in Auto form but they are cheap as chips to buy and a nice smooth drive.
Other options are the 525e, the 528i and the 535i. You might find a 525e in good nick for reasonable money but the 528i and 535i's that are left will probably either be really nice examples with high price tags or sh1tters owned by drift-warriors.

Rat - not rat look, just rat - M535i?
Brilliant car. Drives superbly. Very quick. Badged as a 520i too. Looks shit. Just passed its MOT and drove from Gloucester to Glasgow without missing a beat.
PM me for details.

I ran an alpine white E28 520i for about 6 years.
Several times I saw Alfa 164's advertised and set off to have a look.
Turned round and brought the E28 back,it drove so well!
We used it for our first holidays into Europe, travelling down to Spain, complete with mother-in-law reigning from the back seat. There was the odd 8 year old 'rubber-duck89' comment,'Mummy, daddy's doing over a 100....again....'
One of the few cars I truly regret selling,if I had known as much about BMW's then as I do now it would have had a 2.7 conversion!
