Has anyone bought a complete, built up 4cyl engine and bought it home in an e30 before? Might need to do this tomorrow in mine, 2 door saloon.

Thought about taking passenger, and back seat out and it might work.

Yeah, I've seen someone carry an S50B32 engine in their boot before, in an E30!

Moved a built up M10 lump in the boot. Steering was a bit light to say the least.
Boot wouldn't close either, If I was to do it again I'd whip the front passenger seat out and stick it in there. Imagine having a crash with that as your passenger :(

isnt it easier/safer to hire a small van for half a day ? i guarantee youll damage the paintwork trying to get it in the door. or damage your back trying to load it in.

i found it difficult enough getting an engine CRANE in the back of a touring. high sill and narrow gap between rear lights! :(

The "liftover" of the touring tailgate is a right old pain, it's stumped me many a time getting things in that I thought would be a doddle.

As said, straightforward in a touring, tricky part with a saloon is lifting the thing into the boot, then getting it out again...Assuming that you have sufficent help at the loading end to lift the engine into the boot, wedge it well forward against the rear bulkhead. You can always unbolt the bootlid to aid getting a lifting crane in to help removal.......

I would hire a van for half a day or even better have it on a pallet delivered prices seem to vary £30-£50. I used www.palletways.com few times no complaints although depends on who your local depot is. All they want is all fluids drained so nothing leaks or drips and wrapped in plastic with bit of old seatbelt tied through lifting eyes and they load/unload it using fork trucks although safer tied down to a pallet.

+1
This has got to be less hassle than trying to fit it inside a two door car.

Slightly OT, but I got my 2.7 lump home in the back of my Fiesta.

..... And 2 of us lifted it in - no crane.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......
