Am I right in thinking that E28s drive better than 6 series? I've only driven one E28 (my beloved old 528i) and one 635. I thought the 528 drove much better. Firmer, more accurate feel, easier to control tail. The 635 could have been knackered. I've never driven an E12 but I fancy one.
How do they all compare when not knackered?
E12 vs E28 vs 6 series

In my (obviously non biased) oppinion E28s are a better drive, they feel lighter and more direct. Depends what you like, I drove a friends 635 and I was dissapointed with it. If you want a cruiser they are fine, if you want a more engaging drive then go for an E28. Can't comment on the E12 as I have never driven one, but they are cool if you can find one !
Mark.

I've said it before, but when I bought the E28 M5, between agreeing to buy it and actually picking it up, I started to have doubts. I thought that sharing the same floorpan and running gear would mean that it was really the same car as the M635 and I wondered if I would be disappointed.
Driving it was a revelation. I handles far better than the M635, lighter, nimbler, felt much smaller. Ultimately didn't feel quite as fast, but would leave an M635 standing on a twisty road. It drives very like a big E30 M3, with four doors, and useable back seats, and torque, and the steering wheel on the right side, but quieter and more comfortable.
The E28 is the better "sporting" drive, the more enjoyable spirited drive. The E24 is different, it looks better, is usually better equipped, more "civilised" and it's always a bit of an occasion driving it.
Make sure it's not rusty though - most are.
I'd have an E24 over an E28 every time, though
IME, the E12 is a "rawer" E28.

was that the one which was shown in bmw car in the mid 90's ? blue vynal roof on it , with young mr everet ( excuse the spelling ) standing next to it?Andyboy wrote:If that's as good as it looks, what a car. I had a Sapphire blue W plate M535i and although it was nice to look at, it was a rusty bag of old shit that never worked properly.
But when it DID work, it was a hell of car.
i remeber the article on it, i may even still have the magazine some where!
No, not that piece of old sh*t! TPA308S was a 1977 528 automatic, Polaris silver. Absolutely horrible example that I drove to the scrapyard for its owner in 1997. The alloys went on his E28 525i.a_kara wrote:was that the one which was shown in bmw car in the mid 90's ? blue vynal roof on it , with young mr everet ( excuse the spelling ) standing next to it?Andyboy wrote:If that's as good as it looks, what a car. Wish I could comment but my e12 was awful, drove like a smelly dog kennel. Brakes are very good for such an old car though. letyou how one drives next summer when I've sorted it out hopefully.
