When I start my 316i up when cold and switch it off after a short run there is a smell of petrol, which disappears after a couple of mins. The smell seems to be coming from the top of the engine, any ideas? I checked the fuel feed/return and the pipes look fine.

My late(K plate)touring is fitted with this gadget, and smells of petrol!! What is the cure?Jeepster wrote:Yeah, but then he would have the smell all the time, the carbon canister is to vent the fuel tank, so it should only really smell if its cold surely.

How much would it be to replace the canister? I cannot see any physical leaks on pipes, it is only 5 mins from cold then it stops smelling completely.

Gonna pop down GSF in vain hope that they might have one, been slightly distracted by my new project car to sort this issue out.
