E28 M535 HARTGE (86)?
Moderator: martauto
Well it is an old 5 series so no you cannot compare it to an M3 really. They are totally different cars.
however, he has owned both and if he says it goes and handles as well as his old one then cool beans.
Nice!

good for 260 brake odd just like an alpina B9/10 3.5 but with hartge bits on it instead really.
Hartges are usually a touch more hardcore as they didn't have a 3 bmw warranty from new to worry about like alpina did, so the camshaft is a touch more aggressive and the shocks harder etc

europe is 2 years, UK 3 has been for years so i see it. I know this as my old mans E46 was ordered UK spec from a belgium dealer and he had a camshaft sensor failure and had to pay out for it to be fixed when it was 2.5 years old and we found this out!
most tuners bar alpina give 1 year. Alpina follow BMW's system

Seems cheap to me, what's the lowdown on these, BHP etc? Can you compare it to a E30 M3 like the guy says??
An E30 touring, two E28 M5's and an E28 528i.

A real shame, would it still be worth concidering if the repairs were carried out properly with documentation to prove it, or is it worth a definate swerve?Demlotcrew wrote:![]()

IF the car was 4 grand then yes you 'might' still have a look around (for rust), but a 535i with a head and manifold and wheels is far from a Hartge!

On the HPI check, there is no mention of Hartge, it's listed as M535i, so are you saying that it is not a genuine Hartge either.Demlotcrew wrote:IF the car was 4 grand then yes you 'might' still have a look around (for rust), but a 535i with a head and manifold and wheels is far from a Hartge!

I am not at all familiar with Hartge, i know enough about the E28's that are M535i, M5, B2.8, B9, B10 and B7 turbo........but none of the variations that you listed previously
Given the choice of an E28 B9 or the H5s 3.5l, which would you choose?

The thing with Hartge is that they made more money on parts/accessories and power upgrades than selling complete converted cars like Alpina (who bough full cars from BMW at factory prices and turned them into Alpinas with different chassis numbers) so most Hartge cars would not show up as Hartge on a HPI/Logbook like Alpinas would. Theres lots more on that subject.
SO i think a previous or current owner drove the car into Birds and asked for the all Hartge parts to be put on.
I would chose the H5s Sport Motronic 3.4l as it comes with a hartge built engine from factory and is more powerful and smoother than its counterpart 3.5l built by BMW and used on the Alpinas.

I spotted this before it was posted on the zone btw .
The guy has it on ebay and a friend of mine has asked him a question over ebay since about hpi clear ?? and he states it is even though i spoke to him on the phone and via email and he knows its on the hit list
Naughty boy , Knowing its a write off and stating its not in his ad

Part of his email to me ....
I AM AN INSURANCE ENGINEER FOR RBS AND DO KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING AT REGARDING DAMAGES WITH 20 YEARS BMW BODY SHOP EXPERIENCE BEHIND ME.YES I KNOW THE CAR HAS HAD REPAIRS TO IT BUT NOTHING SEVERE.I WILL CONTEST THE DOCUMENT THAT I HAVE WITH THE INFO YOU HAVE SUPPLIED AND THANK YOU FOR THAT.
