As the topic says really, im about to import a Evo 9 GT spec from Japan for approx 15k. Its an 06 with 8000 miles, standard with a FSH.

What BMW can i get for that money as im contemplating my options!!

I want something about 3 yrs old as i never had anything newer than 10 yrs before and its got to be quick :-) (Been driving a 331bhp MR2 Turbo for last 3 years!!)

M3's are out of the question which was about all i could think off!!

If he is about to import and Evo 9 I can't see insurance being a problem..

But then I can't see why an M3 is either.. From what I've heard it's f**king expensive to maintain an Evo more so then an E46 M3 (I know people with both), perhaps it isn't fast enough? :o

the cost of running on evo will be far greater than most BMW's, the insurance will also be more, especially on imports.

if you can afford do to the above, then surely an M3 is not out of the question.

Well I can make this clear for you, do you want a Private Jet to use for driving or do you want an F15 Falcon Jet Fighter?

Why are m3s out the quiestion? you could buy the e46 m3 though for about that much, or the 330i, 325i...............not to mention the 1 series, it depends on your opinion :)

Depends on your taste mate, Id be going for a nice 330ci mate or a 320/330cd..............You could go for an early or ropey E46 M3 aswell.

I think the prices of E46 M3's will plummet due to the cost of taxing it from next year! I certainly wouldn't buy one!

MCoupe, no contest!

The Evo is an undboubtedly superb point to point car, but sub 15mpg on a diet of only super unleaded at £1.15+ per litre, no thanks! Plus the accident you have when you and the car eventually run out of talent is colossal. 3K service intervals :-x

Says he with the BMW :? the Zm3 coupe's acceleration was described as sickening/nausiating* sp when new. Not bad for NA eh

I had a mate who had an EVO 8 he got rid of it after 6 months for a few reasons.

He was going to kill himself in it
15mpg
and the 5000 mile service intervals didn't seem so cool anymore

The M3 is definitely more of a drivers car, is quick and makes a spine tingling noise too. I respect the the evo and it's immensly capable but its a bit overkill for me, its packed with driver aids and too many wheel drive. As said if you do lose it in an evo it will be when you're trying to go round a roundabout at 90 or something, it'll make a mess.

fuzzys confused... ford in bmw etc...

why so anti boost simon? fact remains that a 250bhp turbo car feels quicker than a 300bhp n/a car. of the same weight

What about a 130i? Something a bit different and dipping below 15k now. Ok its not quite in the same league for speed but its not that far off. Insurance and tax will be plenty cheaper, and servicing vastly cheaper.
