Hey Guys, going to be renovating the paintwork on my car and just want to ask could i use G3 Cutting compound on metallic paint without damaging the paintwork? as it's metallic paintwork i have on my 320i

Are you using a buffer or by hand? It's best to use a buffer to get it to work its magic.

You're better off with G6 or G10 if you've only got light swirls.

You will probably need to polish it after to remove any imperfections left by the G3/6/10 and then would be best suited to wax over the top to protect the surface.

I will be renovating the paintwork by hand, the colour im going to be renovating is lazerblue metallic as the paintwork is very flat and in need of renovating, what compound would be best to use to renovate the metallic paintwork?

Metallic paintwork has Lacquer over the top of it.

If the lacquer is dull then you can 'buff' it up.

Depending on how bad the paint is (depends on your interpretation of 'very flat'). You're probably best getting some pics up to show what it's like.

A cutting compound will remove small amounts of the surface, where as most non-abrasive polish's simply fill the swirls/scratches. If used properly the cutting compound will give you a smoother surface that you can then polish any minor defects out of, and wax to stop it deteriorating again.
