Using Zaino

Hi peeps ive got a Zaino kit i havint used just yet as want to have the car spot on before i do!

My 1st question is what can i get to Remove swirls ect from the paint to have it defect free by hand??

2: Can it be applied by hand with good results???

and 3: is it best to machine polish the car, i dont have one yet but ill be getting a Megs G220 shortly!

To get rid of swirls properly then you really need some sort of buffer. You'll struggle by hand. There are various products on the market that will do it, and opinions vary on how easy/well they work.

I personally use Farecla G3 (trade product) but there are endless amounts from other manufacturers that claim to do the same thing.

Is the Farecla used with a Buffer?? Would i be better off Getting the swirls removed before i go all out with the Zaino?

Ya! if youve got one and it work's no point change'n it! their Expensive enough!
so do you know what i could use to lessen the swirls by hand before Polishing??

I use Sonus Swirlbuster FX iirc, it worked well on the E30 Dolphin Metallic and E46 Topaz Blue. Used by hand, 3 coats later and it looked a lot better.

I used some scratch X from meguires there today 3 coats on the Bootlid Did improve it a little but not alot either! Spose thats probably as good as it get's By hand!!

i used a cheapo 25 quid buffer a few months back, you know the 2 handled things that shake your hands to pieces. they felt like they were going to fall off afterwards lol. anyway i used that with 3 different grades of presta compound and finished it off with some megs gold class. the result was amazing, the paint looked like the previous owner had cleaned the car with brillo pads lol. now apart from a few scrathes wich are through the lacquer its looks better than it would of come from the factory. i did it on my fiesta zetec-s run around wich is RS blue looked really nice even for a ford not a swirl mark in sight and the paint was really deep.

deffinatly going to invest in the megs polisher though looks a good bit of kit and using that cheapo thing makes you see why a decent one is expensive.

Ya ive one of those things aswell but its bloody Dangerous keeps throwin the pads off so wont put it near the BM

i wouldnt change my porter cable thats for sure, just starting to get the hang of it properly now and learning how each polish works as they all behave differnetly.

bring on the some so i can get my zaino back out again and give all 3 cars a good going over.

I Was going to get a porter cable but since the G220 is out i dont see the point of a 110v machine!
Ive herd that the Zaino is hard to use in the Damper weather is this true??
I also have loads fo meguires stuff i use During winter months

I went over the roof and bonnet with Zaino AIO outside on saturday, the sun was out but it was cold, no problems at all.

i put mine on in september for santa pod and havent touched it since except for washing it and it is stil beading and protecting very well,

is there something i missed with it?? as does the rest of the kit Bond to the surface better when washed with Zaino Car wash? Im useing Meguires stuff at the min

Cant say I entirely agree with that, they are different products for entirely different purposes that you probably wouldnt use in the same shedule anyway. I dont use it and dont have any issues with getting a decent finish which has bugger all to do with what I wash it with and much more to do with how the paint is cleaned and polished before application of the sealant. Personally I use Sonus clay, Menzerna Polish and then use Zaino.

Use of Zaino sealant should be avoided in high moisture atmospheres (so generally most British weather between October and May), it doesnt go off and generally doesnt do its job very well. I tried it once in February and wasted the product. Nice, sunny warm day is best bet.

You have chosen a product that is fantastic if the prep is spot on but will not do you any favours if not, therefore as others have said, a damn good machine polish prior to the initial application is essential.

By the way, I dont particularly rate Zainos polish ZPC - didnt have enough cut for me and I couldnt make it finish very well, hence using Menzerna. This does mean an extra stage removing the greasy residue left by Menzerna which ZPC doesnt leave but that doesnt bother me as this gives me a good chance to inspect my polishing work prior to sealing.

i share the same opinion to you with ZPC and therefore prefer Menzerna polish,

but i did the same with my Zaino and wasted it


but have to say when it bonds correctly the results are awesome

to say it doesnt work in damp or unsunny conditions is not the case

as with any LSP atmospheric conditions will affect curing times.Zaino is no different.

I agree ZPC is not the holy grail when it comes to prep...but its a good starting point for a novice with it being a safe product that will remove light blemishes and is easy to use by hand

i use alsorts to prep menzerna being one and this product is renowned for massive issues with differing weather conditions.

iam feeling the love for 3M prep stuff at the minute which is weird cuz its the brand i started with many years ago

I Really need to prep it by machine Tried by hand but had a minimal effect! Lots of Swirls
