Chrome detailing

I spent the afternoon cleaning the car (shampoo, t cut and wax) and was quite pleased with the result. Apart that is for the chrome/stainless surrounds to the windows, which are looking a bit shabby and faded. Is there any way of bring them back up or would it be better to replace them with black surrounds? In which case can someone point me to where I might find suitable surrounds or do they have to be removed, rubbed down and sprayed?
