Hi guys,

Got a new AFM for my 325i. But whilst its off I'd quite like to give the metal block a bit of a clean up just to add a bit of bling to the engine bay when it goes on.

What do you reckon is the best way of doing this? Hours with some wire wool and some turps or is there a better/quicker way?

Thanks,

Nick

Decent metal polish, eg Solvol Autosol, would make it easier I imagine. Maybe use a dremel type tool with polishing bits to get in the nooks & crannies.

What about spraying on some 'gunk' before attempting to clean it up?

I was taking you literally when you said you had a 'new' AFM! If it's a grubby used one, I guess you'll need to de-gunge it somehow, but take care not to get the gunk into the metering parts! Wire wool or a brass wire brush may be a safer method.

i would clean it with something like gunk first. then generously cover it in autosol. leave it on there for a few mins. give it a good going over with a hard brush(not metal thought) to get the shit out of the nooks&crannies. then wipe off with a cloth. and repeat. and repeat.

Guess I could just look on the net....

how about spraying it with halfords 'aluminium' paint? looks very similar to that finish and it won't corrode in daily use :D

LOL! I like you're thinking but I think I'm just gonna get down to having some quality time with some wire wool.

i copied datourer and tried to do mine, the throttle bode came up luke new but the afm is much harder work so i cheated and polished what i could and sprayed the worst panels or sections black, it worked quite well in the end. :)
