Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to take apart an OEM convertible hardtop.
I'd like to replace my saggy roof lining, but it seems that I have to take apart the hardtop in order to remove the lining and install a new one properly. For example, how does one remove the four handles inside?
I don't know where to start and I really don't want to damage anything.
If you have any tips on how to replace the roof lining on a Vert hardtop I'd appreciate it.
Also, someday in the future I may have it stripped and repainted. For those who have done that, how did you remove the weather stripping and seals? What did you do to disassemble the hardtop before you could start stripping the vinyl?
Thank you,
-Todd
(ps. here's some pics of a hardtop I found on the internet if you'd like to use them as reference)

I figured out how to remove the inside handles, it's actually really easy. Just need to pry off the two caps on each side of the handle to reveal the screws.td69 wrote:For example, how does one remove the four handles inside?
With the handles removed I think I can put in a new headliner without having to remove any more parts. I can just tuck it under the trim.
Still, I'm curious about how to strip and paint the hardtop. If anyone can describe that process I'd appreciate it.

stripping the vinyl is a big job, it leaves all this gluey residue which needs to be taken off then smoothed. best left to a pro as it can ruin the finish if not done properly
