I've been experimenting with swirl removal... these pictures are not of an E30, but my E30 is silver/blue and I wanted to remove swirls on a darker car. It's only 6 years old, and I've kept it clean, but by using (I guess) a sponge whilst washing, i've swirled it.

I've not been trying to take pictures which distort the results - what would be the point. I hope it's obvious which panel has been done and which has not :D

Step 1 for me was using Auto-Glym resin polish AS IT IS VERY GOOD AT REMOVING TAR SPOTS ( and I have some left over anyway), but that isn't what got rid of the swirls, though it did lessen them.

Step 2 was using 3M Imperial Hand Glaze; you can buy this from any automotive paint business. I cannot stress how important it is to remove this BEFORE IT DRIES! It won't do any harm, but it's a devil to get off! It has no wax or polish, but it cleans the paint superbly AND REMOVED A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF SWIRLS. It also removed the Auto-Glym very easily

Step 3 was Gold Class Meguiars.

I know the result isn't in John's league, but it made a big difference (all by hand) and didn't take too long.

btw a big thanks to John for supplying the polishing pads - they are very good.
