Probably been convered 1000 times, but the search simply brings up every thread with the word spoiler in it.

Got my hands on a black IS spoiler, which has been a bit weathered and gained a few white spots on it. Whats the preffered method to restore it back? I've heard rumours of linseed oil before, don't know if they're true or not.

I tried spraying some autoglym Vinyl and Rubber care on it but that did sweet FA.

Any hints?

Linseed oil works wonders the tech 1 spoiler on mine was very faded and came back to almost new. there is several pics of my cab on these threads which might give you an idea.

Looks good.

I've been doing a bit of reading and it turns out using plasti dip on them yields great results.

I take it you can just pick linseed oil up from B&Q, and you just brush it on and run it in with a cloth?

Bought some from B&Q earlier. Two rubbings of linseed oil has made it look like new. I'll check it in the morning however to make sure it hasn't soaked it all in and left it the same.

Smells good though

here an interesting fact for you, dont leave rags with linseed oil on lying around as they can combust without warning 8O

It did mention that on the back of the bottle, yet it isn't labeled flammable :?:

think thats because while linseed oil isnt, the reaction that takes places as it dries causes heat which builds up and can then com-bust.

could well be wrong, worth bearing in mind though, e30 destruction by linseed oil doesn't sound to great

Wikipedia say's using an organic cloth like cotton causes bacterial growth which makes heat.

Apparantly large quantitys of pistachio nuts can also spontaneously combust as well

Anyway, this is off topic now.

Hey guys, sorry to be dragging up old stuff but my Mtech spoiler is also a bit dry & I would like to treat it before it gets to a point where it cracks.

Is linseed oil the generally accepted method of restoration?

I read somewhere that to treat your dashboard so it does not crack, you can use olive oil??? Maybe it would work for spoiler if not an urban legend???

I'm not keen on using chemical based products coz I dont want it to look black, I want to prevent cracking...
