Evening folks.
looking for a bit of advise (nowt new there then lol) regarding a DIY/ghetto wheel refurb.
got a set of caliber vintage alloys on my sport & after just over two years of daily use on the car they are looking a bit tired & in need of a freshen up.
they're not kerbed, cracked etc just looking a bit tired & I've been thinking of spraying them either silver, nagaro, or gunmetal grey (& yes I intend to paint the polished lip aswell) because A) the car (sport) is in daily use right now, & B) they'll be a dam sight easier to look after & keep clean. but what I would like to know is whats the best way of going about it? As I've never done it before.
any hints of tips (what paint to use etc) would be a massive help.
T.I.A folks.

Prep is the most important thing. I'd 240 grit the wheels to get a good key. Then clean them up, white spirit would do making sure you dry them quickly and throughly. Then primer them. Then flat down with 500 grit, clean up again and then spray with the colour paint of your choice, then once that is set spray a few coats of lacquer over the top.

Cheers for that kitch
thing is I would like a hard wearing finish & I've been thinking (could be wrong though) about using something like hammerite silver, could that be used??

I guess it could be used but I can't imagine it would give a good finish. Imo the best way for a hard wearing finish would be take it to a body shop and ask for extra lacqure. As paint from a gun will be better wearing then rattle can paint anyway and extra laqure would give a lovely finish and extra protection.

Cheers again kitch
I'll have a word with a few body shops round here & see what they will charge as like I say I want a hard wearing finish that'll put up with being in daily use.

for hard wearing you want powder coating
best place to try for cheaper- is maybe not a wheel refurb place, but just google your town/area+poder coating, and ring around
to be honest- the sheer amount of aggro and ball ache of all the prep and sanding rubbing down work-then maybe ballsing up the final finish, youd gladly pay for someone to do a proper job
