I bought a new sponge and would change it but can not seem to take off the glue. I tried with a thinner oil and gasoline but unfortunately nothing. Is it someone has experience and can you recommend a tool that will easily remove the adhesive residue and without damaging paint. Thank you.

the old glue is sticky....the new glue is sticky
stick the new panels over the old glue.....they will outlast the car for sure and save yourself a gluey sticky mess and 1 day's work

I used thinners/white spirit on a kitchen sponge and a plastic spatula. It will come off. Cover the engine bay with a sheet or something or you'll be spending the next 6 weeks pulling bits of glue off it.

Or just stick it on over the old glue as pukar suggested..

Another vote for sticking on the old glue. I did that a few years ago and it's showing no signs of coming off.

I have just done this.

Take the bonnet off, it's only six bolts, washer pipe and strut disconnected.

I found an old duvet to lay the bonnet on and used petrol with a cork sanding block - http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/12093509 ... adtype=pla

The paint wont be damaged and the new pads will adhere properly. I tried to stick the new over old glue and it didn't work.

much the same as the above, mine was in an appalling state. I took the bonnet off and used thinner and a sponge...took most of an afternoon to get it all off!

Did mine recently, bonnet was going for a full paint. I could only get Winns brake cleaner, worked well but I went through most of an aerosol and found only a metal scraper would do.

Make sure it's in a well ventilated area as it's not nice to breathe in brake cleaner.
