Hi guys,

My e30 has a water leak on the passenger side. I heard about 'elephant trunk' and went to investigate. Turns out it was totally corroded.

Will it be alright not to replace it or is it vital?

Cheers

The elephant trunk is rubber, or do you mean the metal lip it fixes around has corroded away?

It is preferable to have one as otherwise the water that drains from the heater box area drains down behind the sound deadening material on the bulkhead and transmission tunnel.

Thanks for the response.

It was the rubber bit that was totaled.

its a pretty vital piece, albeit a small part but unless you want your bulkhead to rot or wet feet i'd get a new one soon.!

Dealer only and about £20 ! Used is a waste of time, unless it has been recently replaced, it will be rock hard and virtually impossible to refit securely.
