whats the best method?steam clean and wipe clean or will it shrink/damage cloth?or just use chemicals??

cloth seats and how bad are they ?
if you want of the shelf stuff, go with some dedicated upholstery cleaner, or use some all purpose cleaner mixed up to a weak solution, a soft bristle brush and go for it. but the seats will get wet so its advisable to have a suitable vacume of some sort to use to suck up the water the it will dry easier and quicker. also, you dont want the damp dirty smell left if you have access to one or have rent one for the day, get a spray extraction one
