Anyone know the best way to remove pinstripes.

I have bought an E30 in Lachs Silver and it has a black pinstripe down both sides, but it has been on some time and is missing in patches, creating an untidy broken line appearance.

I have removed some of the pinstriping. The black vinyl comes of easily when picked with a razor blade. The problem lies in removing the adhesive line underneath.

I have tried boiling water.
I have tried WD40
I have tried White spirit.

Any ideas or tips borne of experience most gratefully appreciated.

Ispropyl Alcohol should do the trick, use sparingly with a clean cloth. Or can try Bug and tar remover but remember you need to wash and polish, wax aftewards.

Will the Isopropyl Alcohol or the lighter fluid damage the clearcoat or the paint finish in any way. I appreciate it will remove any wax finish already on the car.

Do they need any diluting before applying?

Will there be any further damage?

shouldn't damage to lacquer at all, Isoproyl Alcohol is what you prep bodywork with for paint, It just cleans the surface. one the sticky stuff is off, i would give the whole car a good polish and a couple of coats of wax anyway.

Google "caramel wheel" bought for about a fiver... Put it on your drill and the pinstripe will be off in no time without damage to the paintwork.

caramel/ toffee wheels do work but if you apply too much pressure it has the opposite effect, it makes a bigger mess.

Lighter fluid wont harm the paintwork. Just apply neat to a rag and get rubbing.
