Painting hard parts.

I've notice that BMW have used a very thick, tough, almost rubberized paint on many "hard" parts like fuel tanks, strut bodies and the like.

Does anyone know how to replicate this finish? Is there a specialised product out there? Or is this just a hammerite job?

Ah, sounds stupid but I've never actually had any powder coating done. So, I'll be doing plenty of it soon.

a body shop can supply the right stuff its nothing like powder coating!!!! it needs to be spray applied, powder coating is brittle and chips, this stuff is rubberised for a reason ,so it does`nt chip off exposing metal to the elements thus going rusty

i think you mean spray sealer a good spray sealer gun can be set up to give you the correct finish to look original

no this stuff is different its the same stuff that most german car makers use, i think you mean stone chip stuff which is crap compaired to this stuff, ill find out what it is when i go to work tomorow

try sanding the textured parts down u will soon know that its a form of spray sealer as its like rubber to flatten of stone chip is hard

It's defo some kind of rubberized paint/coating that seems very tough. I just want to know what the product is so that I can redo various parts that need it...

Would BMW know?
