Refurbing front struts
Moderator: martauto
and other components under the car - replacing springs, mounts, discs etc - what will give me the best OEM finish on the strut- hammerite? someone recommended hammerite underseal - wont this look rough? Going for black obviously? Anyone else done this?

I'd go for a decent etch-primer followed by a good quality paint, or get them powder coated.
I swore by Hammerite years ago, but the last time i used it on my brake drums the rust came through within a few months...and the drums weren't even rusty before i painted them!

Going for wire brush, sandpaper, prime and hammerite hopefully without added rust. I think if i gave them such a high quality finish it would irritate me when i drove it -
thinking about all the stone chips? 


I did mine with the hammerite satin black, after powder blasting them......and i was pleased with the finish.

I have done a trailing arm with hammerite hammered finish and it looks ok... I have a mate thats a line manager in a powdercoating factory so im gonna get him to blast and coat them for me
