Member "rrs" refered to using peanut butter regarding the changing of tweeter speakers, this is a new one one me, can any one elaborate (or did I read this in Viz)?

Peanut butter is allegedly good for restoring black plastic parts on cars (it's the oil in it that does the work).

I have just consulted my partner who is an Acoustic / Sound System Consultant. He suggests that peanut butter is best suited to Toast

Not true. I thought it was a well known fact that 'Gentleman's Relish' is a perfect replacement for both a 325i head gasket and the timing chain on the E30 M3.

it helps remove polish compounds from plastic surfaces ( grainy ones like bumper trims)

Another one I've heard is that if you clean you passengers seat with Special K, your wifes arse gets smaller

Peanut buter works but is very messy and do not do it in public ;)

Whereas ground nut oil does the same job and easy to apply.

Personally I just give the said plastic a good scrub with a strong brush (tooth) and a strong mix of a all purpose cleaner. Dry. Then add my plastic care product.

What I've discovered with my van, when some stupid Fork lift driver bangs the back plastic bumper & leaves a nice mark on it (usually red), get a scrubbing brush & washing up liquid, scrub & leave for a day, wash off, hey presto, no more marks!

I never suggested peanut butter was better than any brand name trim gel/wax (none of which provide a permanent solution)simply that it does provide a good lasting finish on certains types of plastics and is a darn sight cheaper.

I'm happy to use it on my car which I feel is far from pikey but as it has just started to wear off my rear numberplate surround(after nearly 6months) the next thing I want to try is the heatgun method.

Have used the smooth peanut on faded plastics and did ok.

However I have just used swissvax plastic cleaner and that did a good job followed with seal feed. (and thats not a kipper)

A few compaines are now selling plastic/rubber sealants.

I have 2 at the moment to try.

One has been on the GFs car now for 2 months, it seems to be ok, but it is in the engine bay so gets little proper grime but does suffer more heat.

If faded to much, I would look at getting them painted black rather than heating them.
