new carpets

there seem to be a few places selling moulded carpets. Are these easy to fit? Is it easy to get the old carpets out?

Not sure on the moulded carpets but to remove your carpets you need to

Remove seats front & rear
remove centre consoles,both of them
pop the plastic sill trims off
undo the seatbelt anchors
remove under dash cover above the pedals
remove accelerator pedal
remove front speaker covers
it makes it easier to make a cut under the dash on top of the trans tunnel (you will know what i mean when you get there)
Cant remember if the glove box has to come out (would make it easier though)
then sit where the rear bench was and lift the carpet up and drag backwards.
then wrestle it out of the car.

OR, if the old carpet is scrap just cut it out in sections but beware of the looms running across the floor pan

No glove box doesn't need to come out, could make life a little easier though, I did the carpet mine a coupleof months ago and I did it in and out in an hour and a half.

Most of the aftermarket carpets I have seen are pretty ordinary - look cheap and don't fit too well. It seems E30 carpets are generally pretty indestructible and can be easily re dyed. There are some posts on here (do a search) with details of dye, etc.
You would be better off with dye or getting a second hand carpet than aftermarket rubbish.

Definitely cut the carpet around heater box - only needs a couple of small cuts and is hidden by the console. Remove heater box a big job and not necessary

Thanks, my carpet is knackered. Big hole on the passengers side. If I get a second hand carpet and dye it is there mcuh chance of the dye running?

Get a decent original carpet washed, look as good as new and dont even smell after

I pressure washed mine and the amount of shit that came out was unbelievable

Oh and it got rid of the manky smell too!

Not if you get the right dye. Mine hasn't run a bit and looks great IMO. Dyed from beige to grey.
I believe the dye used by plenty of zoners is "Valet's Choice" but I used a local (aussie) product. Really easy to do - high pressure clean, brush or spray on, work into pile and hose off. Repeat a couple of times.
If you can find the thread on here it is really helpful with pictures, just can't remember who posted it

A few places - Pelican Parts (US), Imparts, a mate who wrecks a few (BMW Tech) and some on here. Never BMW

ta for the info. how long do pelican parts take to arrive? they are USA I think.

I got a package from them, to my door, in about 6-7 working days. Pretty good from LA to Hobart and cheap - large box for about US$38 (wasn't very heavy though)
