Hi people,

it was a nice day outside and though I'd wash the alpina, so I went out to for a bit to the shops and asked the missus to fill take the hosepipe out, fill up the buckets and get it all ready for when I come back.

Now normally the missus does all the shopping and I tell her to get the car shampoo and stuff, and then she puts it all out and so on...

So i got back home and started washing the car and noticed that the water smelt different, like strawberry, but carried on washing thinking she got a new shampoo of something. Done the whole car and dired it off, and it was looking pretty good.

Went in an asked her what it wass, 8O 8O 8O she said she forgot to get some more car shampoo so just put in fairy washing up liquid instead 8O 8O 8O

It doesn't damage the paintwork does it? I mean it's the first time shes done it and the suds were really nice and went on the car really well.

Is it dangerous for the car, can it cause rust or anything?

Thanks in advance!

It won't have damaged your paint but any polish or wax protection will be washed off. Get some fresh polish and wax on there as soon as you can.

Will do deffo. It seemed like she poured the whole bottle in with the amont of suds in that bucket.

Worst of all, she said it was good becuase it will help clean it better and that it's good for tyres, and she wouldn't accept any wrong lol!

Her cars getting "brapped" tommorow morning! winkeye LOL, Yaris drift around the roundabout.

should be fine, i wash mine twice a year with the two bucket method...
one bucket of diluted TFR degreaser, followed by a bucket of water thrown over it to rinse!

keep the satin white paint lovely and removes the soaked in greasy handprints with ease :D

seriously though, get out and give it a good polish / wax if you're worried. it's unlikely to cause damage in practice. it does contain a lot of salt (supposedly) but so do the roads for half of the year...

As has been said above, any protection on the car will now be lying in puddles around the car. Washing up liquid contains salt, we all know what effect this has on our cars, one was will not hurt it, I would however get some wax/sealant back on it as you paint is now open to all mother nature can throw at it.

Washing up liquid is full of salt (to ensure the glasses dry without a smear). Hence the link to rust.
