Cheap polishing kit

My new polishing kit arrived today so had to give it a try LOL
It was an ebay special and bought to do the lips of my borbet a's

Before i started



Halfway through




finished about an hour later




Not bad at all imo

It comes with instuction which is good.
I used the heavy mop and grey compound first,then the other mop with grey compound and finished with the buffing mop and pink compound.

Nice one The lip on my wheels look a bit dull, some polishing is in order as cliffybabe would say

Looking good, but why didn't you flat down the curbing on the outer lips?

It's very simple to do, and it would finish off those wheels....you just flat them down as you would on the dish.

You're lucky with borbet a's that they have that outer lip, my borbet t's don't have that, so everytime my brother curbed my wheels it would scrape the actual dish part of the wheels

That kit will save my fingers when i'm doing my Rondells.

It's very simple to do, and it would finish off those wheels....you just flat them down as you would on the dish.

I will be giving a go at the outer lips ,just wanted to try it out really.

What did you use to flat the wheels down before polishing?

I'm finding that flatting them with the sander i used originally will take forever to level the surface out. Yours look pretty good, so it looks like you had a good smooth surface before you started polishing them.

They have just been fully refurbed but the dish is dull, want it shinier

I used wet and dry to flat mines awhile ago now.Iirc i started with 600 and went upto 1500 it took ages and my arms were sore for days.

Don't think they are bare metal, have a flakey sort of finish to them

Just clean them normally, don't use any products

It sounds like they've not been polished...most of these wheels come with a diamond cut type look, but in reality it's just a paint coating that is really reflective, and then lacquered over the top.

You'll need to flat back the lacquer and that paint, then the primer, and then you'll be back to bare metal!

You're looking at about 1week minimum to do them properly...that's how long mine took first time round.

Best quote i had to get mine done was £300, so i did them myself and spend the £300 on the car instead!

The flakey bit will probably be the lacquer starting to peel as water has got behind it.

It's not hard...but it's very time consuming.

It took me 1 week just on the dish's, and that's having used a sander!

Need to make sure though that you have a perfect surface to start with, and then gradually use finer and finer flatting paper, before polishing it about a million times to get the perfect finish!

I did a set years ago that had laquer that had started to let in water! I carefully used paintstripper on the polished faces and then polished them up! I also did them while they were still on the car!

Use nitromors on the laquer it work a treat.

I've found that even a that won't remove the primer's used on most wheels though.

Probably fine if the wheels have been polished and lacquered, but won't really help much on painted wheels as it'll cause alot of mess.

I've only used it on borbet a's so your could be right.
