Refurbing my BBS

I want to begin this weekend and will be working on the spare first.

There is some curbing and minor damage to the rims. I have a rough idea of how to go about it, but would like to confirm a) how others have done this and b) what tools I'll need.

Oh, I'd like a polished lip if poss and will being repainting the centres silver or maybe grey.

I used paintstripper to clean off the silver from the lip, but the yellowish primer below is tough stuff and took lots of rubbing down with sandpaper, wire wool and a flat-bladed screwdriver (for the nook up to the spoked part), then Solvol Autosol. The Solvol works well with the wire wool to get a decent polished lip.

Lots of elbow grease is called for

I cheated on all the sets i did by using a sander (about £10 from B&Q) and sanded them back to metal. You just need to make sure that you get all of the course scratches out before going onto polishing.

im cheating even more and paying £200 for mine to be done, did em myself but was not happy with finish

well two are getting done as an xmas pressy from my parents so there costing me £100.

i would re do them myself if i had the paisence

BBS's do take for ever....my borbets T's took me half the time 1 single bbs wheel did!

Is £200 the going rate then, £50 a wheel? I am tempted to give this a shot but as you say the complexity of the spokes and all the little nocks and crannys is off putting. I just want them black

ste, just give them a quick clean up any brake dust off and a good key and get spraying, black is very easy and your not wanting anything polished, not worth £50 imo just get a fair bit of black paint

I've recently done a set of 2 piece bbs's...if you cant get your wheels acid dipped, will get all the old paint of saving you a serious amount of time and effort!

I'm doing mine at the moment too as im trying to get the sport as close to concourse as i possibly can. Already done the spare wheel when i was overhauling the back end of the car.

I cleaned the wheel first went over it with red scotchbrite then masked it up and primed it with halfords grey primer then let it dry and gave it 3 coats of bmw titanium silver which is prob the best silver for wheels then 2 coats of lacquer and did the inside of them aswell for that minty concourse look!

It came out perfect like a brand new wheel from bmw just got the other 4 to do now! oh the joys lol
