Ok ppl. Have the car a few months and b4 I got it I had it up on the ramp and didnt notice anything unusual. However today I noticed the two footwells were damp. pulled out the seats and lifted the carpet and the floor was wet. There was what looked like toughened plastic on the floor the water was all around there.

Jacked up the car and didnt notice anything unusual but moved the m-tec kit out of the way and saw the car cancer rust all along the sill were you jack up the car. What can I do? About both. The rust and the water. Has anybody had this problem b4?????

HELP

fella, depending on how bad it is, itԚ´ll be a cut out and replace job :?

the carpets, lift up off the floorpan and put a heater in there.

i have heard of dehumidifiers, heat guns (those that strip paint  ) and stuff like that

there are lots of reasons for a wet carpet. do a search for wet + footwell for more info.

Rust can be cut away from the sills and patches welded ver the holes. or larger rust patches may need the sill replaceing.

When i 1st got mine it smelt of damp, sure enough once the seats were out i pulled the carpet !! It was floating, and took 5/6 days with a dehumidifyer to dry out.

The problem was in 2 places, Heater intakes, & hole in the lower part of the bulkhead/floorpan !!

Just abit of an update more than anything else. I pulled the car apart and eventually got the carpet out. Nothing too serious to be seen. But on closer inspection I pulled at something sticking out of the drivers well and pulled outa blob of sealant. The cars been fixed at some stage b4. Ive driven around for the last week or so with no carpet to try and find out where the waters coming in and no joy. The floor is bone dry. No water even coming in the now hole in the floor.
I may need to get some panels welded!!!!

Aaahhh!

Over the xmas time I had the carpet still out and drying in a wharehouse. The hole in the floor isnt letting the water in at all. Even through puddles - nothing.
Took it to a garage and poured water over it and somebody stayed inside to see where the water was coming in. He said its defo the air intake at the bottom of the front window.
It was all blocked up - so I cleaned it out and water still kept coming in and I decieded to pour water straight down the air intake(blower!) (I know sounds abit stupid but the water is coming in anway) but nothing came into the car at all. NOTHING.
So I was then very careful to pour it along the water gully at the bottom of the window and straight way the water came it. So now we know where its coming in its off to try and figure out how to sort it. If anybody has any ideas let me know.

Does that mean it's the scuttle panel below the windscreen? It can be that the metal below the window rubber has rusted and water gets in there.

Sounds like a make your mind up kind of decision. Either live with the problems, get rid or pay up and get it all fixed properly.

CHECK UNDER THE FUSEBOX AREA UNDER THE BONNET. I HAVE A LARGE RUST HOLE UNDER THERE AND IT LEAKS INTO THE PASSENGER FOOTWELL.

Get your head into the passenger footwell and look up behind the glovebox area on the bulkhead, get your hand up there amongst the wires etc and check for any holes that should not be there or a rubber grommit which may have moved.

Also, check your window seals on the doors, if the inner door panels have ever been off and the plastic sheeting removed, these have been known to then deposit water into the car.

best of luck fella

Thanks for all your help guys. Been a while since but have been tinkering at the car since. I turns out the water wasnt getting in thru the air intake at the window.
Bit long winded but -
The water was running down the window into the gully at the bottom and at the corner where it goes down towards the front lights it was leaking in through a little hole on both sides. From there it was running, pouring behind the bulk head cover and down from there till it met the body of the car - a screw or summit and slowly leaking in from there, if it didnt get in there there it would keep going and get in at a rubber bung further down (abit loose) and dripping in from there.
Have sealed up the corner and all around where it was gettin in on both sides and havn't had a problem since. Carpet back in and now I can hear myself think again!!!
Will defo have to keep an eye on this problem but I do intend on stripping it all down eventually and rebuilding as alot of ppl seem to be doing these days.

Thanks again for your help.

Ive had similar wet carpet problems and so far ive stripped out the interior and carpet.
Noticed some rust and an old patch/repair around the drivers accelerator pedal which will need welding up.
Also noticed rusty water stain around the gromet in the pasenger footwell/bulk head so i guess it could be leaking in from there aswell.
Also in the same area but a bit lower down in the corner of passenger footwell if i press the seam sealer, a bit of water and bubbles come out.
Gonna remove the sound prooffing and get the wire wheel and investigate further.
By the looks of things ive got water coming in from about three different places.
Will have to run the car with no carpets, get the welding done and runs the car some more with no carpets in the rain and see what happens.
had the interior out for about 10 days now and even when it rained heavely no water appereared.
Howenve once i drove the car in the rain a small puddle appered in the passenger side, so that tells me its not a drainage problem, would i be right in thinking this?
could water be spraying up from road and comming through the bulk head gromet?
