As far as I know the 'bubble leather' in both grey and black is no longer available from BMW and has not been for some time. An interior will come up on ebay once in a blue moon but they are usually knackered too and sell for strong money.

Just looking at the following add http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2096178.htm which gives the chassis number as EC16235. Mine is a sebring grey October 1990 manufactured model chassis EC16030 so not to far different from the one in the ad. Do all motorsports have a continuous run of chassis numbers or is it just coincidence do you think?

Does anyone know if the German E30 Motor Sport Edition was prepped for hard top? I recently bought an E 30 Cabrio, I'm not sure if it's a Motor Sport Edition. It has all the signs: Bubble leather, leather console and ashtrays along with the complete leather door panel, 15 inch Nogaro painted rims. The interior is exactly as shown above. In addition it has front headlight washer and blades, A/C and powered roof. The color is Macau Blue with the dark blue roof. Does the Production code: BB21 qualify as a true Motor Sport German Edition?

Well, over and above yours, I've had two more good '88 Motorsports. One is now in Lenzie/Lennoxtown, the other is in Yorkshire. It will be restored to concours condition. Rough and tatty, but with few owners and low miles and good history, it's well worth doing. The Lennoxtown one is a decent wee car.

I saw another one in a car park in Guildford (no response to the card left) and I've also had the interior out of another one - so there's 5 of the 38.

Hope all's well with my favourite E30 convertible.

I am about to purchase one of the 40 1988 model year Motorsport editions.
so thats 6 accounted for (the one i am getting is a Manual car).

I have recently gained other information about them (mostly from this site)
the '40' have M-coloured pins in the seats and not the stripes sewn in.

They have manual hoods and the paint code is listed as 'Sonderlack' and not Macau blue.

Some were available with brightwork instead of being de-chromed.

Here is the one i am getting (hopefully picking up this Sunday) Excuse the wheels!!

I can also confirm that early Motorsport Editions (the first 40) were listed as so, by having the following option codes:

122 Motorsport Edition
490 Special Paint (Macau Blue) later in life 490 was an individual colour 'Santorini Blue'
9990 Special Upholsty (this is not specific to the colour silver grey, as i know of an e28 M5 with 9990 Special Upholstry which is 'Cherry red with pearl beige piping)

I've seen second hand leather consoles on eBay for over 250.00 starting bid......not to brag or nothing lol I got real lucky last week end I picked up a 1990 325i motor sport convertible in Macau blue for cheap near immaculate condition just a little talc needed and yep she could be a minter. The owners list is high but has lots of paperwork and hip clear. Will post pics up soon. It's an auto and drives like a dream.
