hi im at the point of piecing my e30 back together before it goes for a respray, the previous owner siliconed the black trim halfway down the outside of the doors) on car as they couldnt be bothered to get new clips can anyone recommend the best way to get it off?

Pull the trim as far from the bodywork as possible.
Get a long bladed knife and run it along the inside of the trim to cut through it.

I'd then get a plastic knife to get the worst of it off and some lighter fuel to get the last of it off.

You could use a silicone solvent instead to start/end the process.

Are you sure it is silicone and not Sikaflex which is often used for this bodge?
