My roof & bonnet are riddled with fine scratches. Looks like someone has tried to polish the car at some point... with sand paper.

I gave the car a thorough wash and polish with Autoglym shampoo and wax but it only made them stand out more in the sun.

Any recomendations for a product to use? T-cut?

Machine polisher and the 3 stage merzerna paint restorer and polish will clear that up no problem. It's very dIfficult to remove scratches by hand.

if you look at the color of the top of the left wing, it doesnt tie in with the left half of the bonnet, looks a bit dubious

for a deep scratch, a tin of your cars touch up paint from paints4u for £12 odd, fill it with a thin line of paint, leave for 2 weeks to settle in,ignoring that it looks bad , then with farclia g3 compound and some water and a pad, you can blend it in to look amazing ive found, the paints also great to go over the whole car in areas like all the boot drainage runs, door, boot, bonnet edges for chips, in the door shuts and everything, just fill in any tiny spots and chips, worth doing to prevent any rusting

reds in general are a PITA. old 2 cellulose paint is notorious for it

if you look at the fuel cap, its still red unlike the rest of the 1/4 panel. its only happened on one side of the car and the roof.....

this is before i touched the roof. look at the passenger side , its still red

T cut , thats offensive lol

on her car i used 3M extra fine compound and a hit of autoglym super resin polish

ideally i'd have taken more time to refine it even more and get some more of the swirls out etc but she needed the car the following day

so she got it looking shinny and red again with all the detail work done like the following

i get all my stiff from "elite car car" and some other things from "clean your car"

3M is the make, its fairly expensive but does the job well and last well. you do not need to use much of it.

the super resing polish is good. it has some mild abrasives and the ability to "fill" light scratches like swirls

my old e30's boot lid before i touched it with anything
Image
3 passes with Super resin polish and a layer of wax it came out like this

the wax seals in the fillers.

paint correction will actually polish out the scratches and its a permanent fix depending on how you wash your car to maintain the finish

wow that looks amazing, are these places you get them from on websites? would be interested in getting some of this. If I use the super resin polish, what would I use after to seal it, I have autoglym ultra gloss shine which seems very protective, will this do? cheers

yes

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/

to seal it in, autoglym do a really good durable wax called High definition. its not cheap at about 40 quid. but the tub will last you a long long time. i've used mine to do 10 cars and not even got through a 1/4 of it !!

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/autoglym- ... p?cPath=66

the ultra gloss is a quick detailer that contains sealants. perfect to "top up" the finish after a wash. when waxed and washed if you top it up with the ultra gloss the paint will still bead water after 4 months. my car was still beading after 6 months !!

go to halfords

buy -

auto glym clay bar kit
farclia g3 compount and waffle pad
farclia paint renovator
auto glym super resin polish
a tin of simoniz tin caranuba wax
auto glym vinyl and rubber care
some polishing cloth rags, and microfibre cloths

clean car like normal, rinse, to get a nice clean canvas

1 panel at a time...

clay bar, g3 any scratches, paint renovator, resin polish, wax

then move on to next panel, each panel will take a while to do, and whole car will take a couple of days , but in doing panel by panel it ensures its done, so should it rain etc it wont matter, go roof-bonnet-rear-sides

then look at it, if you really put the effort in it will look immense, dont worrry if youve never done it before, i wasnt an expert, and thats just my method

the paint comes out so so clear , il show you a pic....
